Marketing & Communications Specialist
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice President of Corporate Services & Business Development, the Marketing and Communications Specialist will lead FNCIAS’ marketing and communications initiatives, overseeing strategic planning, content creation, brand management, and community engagement. This position will play a pivotal role in telling FNCIAS’ story, enhancing our public image, and ensuring effective communication with our member Nations, stakeholders, and the public. The Marketing and Communications Specialist will provide leadership in developing and implementing integrated marketing and communications strategies that align with FNCIAS’ mission, vision, and values.
Position Description
Develop, lead, and execute FNCIAS’ comprehensive marketing and communications strategy, including internal and external communications, media relations, and stakeholder engagement.
Implement strategies and tactics that align with FNCIAS’s outreach goals and broader communications and engagement strategy.
Develop and distribute media releases, plan, and coordinate media events, and serve as FNCIAS’ primary media contact.
Create and oversee the production of high-quality marketing materials for print, digital, and social media platforms, ensuring consistency with FNCIAS’ brand standards.
Manage FNCIAS’ digital presence, including website content, social media strategy, and online engagement to increase awareness and community connection.
Develop and distribute media releases, plan, and coordinate media events, and serve as FNCIAS’ primary media contact.
Research, write, and edit compelling content for speeches, newsletters, press releases, blogs, and other communications materials.
Establish and manage FNCIAS’ brand identity, ensuring consistent messaging and visual standards across all communication channels.
Manage updates to corporate content such as FAQs, one pagers, corporate slide templates, etc.
Design graphics for materials and campaigns using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other content creation software.
Conduct market research and analyze audience engagement metrics to refine strategies and improve communications effectiveness.
Support and coordinate FNCIAS events, ensuring they align with marketing objectives and provide meaningful engagement opportunities.
Provide communications advice, guidance, and training to FNCIAS staff to ensure brand alignment and effective messaging.
Manage the marketing and communications budget, tracking expenditures and ensuring efficient use of resources.
Maintain a library of marketing and promotional assets, including photos, videos, and templates.
Manage the ordering of swag and promotional materials, including ensuring correct logo utilization.
Order business cards and other printed materials as needed to support FNCIAS's marketing and communication efforts.
Maintain the company’s website, regularly updating content to ensure it is current, accurate, and reflective of FNCIAS’s mission and values.
Maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues across the organization.
Participate in team meetings and manage and prioritize your projects.
Ensure timely delivery of projects, managing resources and deadlines effectively.
Perform other duties as assigned by the VP Business Development & Corporate Services to support the overall marketing and communications goals of FNCIAS.
Education and Experience
Post-secondary degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, communications, or a related field, preferably in an Indigenous or community-focused organization.
Successful candidates in this position may come from a variety of academic and/or experiential backgrounds, however demonstrating a passion for improving housing and infrastructure outcomes on reserve lands is mandatory.
Desirable Experience and Qualities
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to create engaging content for diverse audiences.
Proficiency in digital marketing tools, content management systems, and analytics platforms.
Experience in graphic design and content creation using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with media, stakeholders, and community members.
Deep respect for and understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, and the ability to integrate them into communications strategies.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to use data to inform decision-making.
Ability to work independently and maintain a high level of integrity and personal accountability.
Ability to embrace challenges and areas of rapid growth.
Willingness to grow and learn, staying updated with industry trends and best practices.
