Role Summary
This position is responsible for shipping and receiving. May load and off-load oil tankers. This position will also assist with various other shipping, receiving and housekeeping functions as required.
Duties and responsibilities
Compares quantity and identification numbers of product against orders
Assembles containers or selects preassembled containers to ship goods
Affixes identifying information and shipping instructions on shipments
Prepares courier bills of lading
Verifies receipt of shipments against bills of lading
Records shortages and rejects damaged goods
May oversee the loading and unloading of product into or from vehicles
May take or assist in taking inventories
Transports goods via hand truck or forklift
When assigned to work in the Food Grade warehouse adheres to all requirements of the Food Safety Programs and the prerequisite programs as documented in workplace specific Food Safety procedures.
Focuses on continuous improvement initiatives, work within legislation relative to health, safety and the environment and participate in training and development programs as agreed upon
Performs routine inspection of forklift at the beginning of every shift – complete required documentation
Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications/Competencies
Grade 12 education
Knowledge of company products, WHMIS, TDG
Minimum 3 year’s experience
Must hold a Certificate in Safe Forklift Operations – Counter Balance and Scissor Lift, and Raymond Reach Truck or be willing and able to participate in training
Must be functionally competent on Computer – familiarity with scanners
Must be flexible and have the ability to multi-task
Must be willing and able to work overtime and any assigned shift as required
Must be willing and able to communicate suggestions for improvement on a regular basis
Previous experience working in a warehouse environment is required
Good eyesight and hearing
Working conditions
Moderate mental effort: constant attention to detail required
Work is routine: decisions made on the basis of established rules
Duties have a moderate impact on the department while errors may affect the work of others in the department
Errors will have a significant impact on our customers and or principals
Tasks have set procedures or detailed instructions are given: frequent progress checks conducted
Frequent exposure to major undesirable and disagreeable conditions
Frequent overtime
Heavy physical demand
