Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Partnerships, the Indigenous and
Stakeholder Engagement Lead will play an important role building and maintaining
relationships with Indigenous partners and stakeholders across many of our
project development sites. You will work with project teams to support building
long-term, mutually beneficial relationships through effective engagement from
the earliest stage of the project through operations. You will also play a key
role in implementing RES Canada’s Reconciliation Action Plan by working across
RES Canada and with our Indigenous partners to ensure we meet the commitments we
set out for ourselves. You will be focused on supporting our development
projects across Canada, with an immediate priority to support Ontario.
Requirements:
* Engage in and support relationship building with Indigenous partners,
Indigenous communities, municipal governments, local communities, and other
local stakeholders in a project region.
* Maintain subject matter expertise on the history of Indigenous Peoples in
Canada, Indigenous rights and title, treaties, traditional protocols, UNDRIP,
the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action, and other key
federal and provincial legislation and policies.
* Lead the coordination and implementation of RES Canada’s Reconciliation
Action Plan, including tracking, measuring and coordinating with
responsibility leads to ensure we are meeting our commitments.
* Advise project teams on strategies and approaches to manage and mitigate
risks to relationships with Indigenous partners, and support the success of
projects in a manner that upholds the company’s core values.
* Monitor, coordinate, and brief on emerging needs and issues as they arise in
relation to Indigenous partners.
* Plan and coordinate all engagement and consultation processes with Indigenous
communities in assigned regions, as needed, including developing materials
(briefing notes, presentations, letters) for use in community outreach and
engagement.
* Monitor and track relevant policies, news, and events related to Indigenous
Peoples both within your region and across other applicable regions.
* Collaborate with project teams on the development and implementation of
Indigenous and community engagement processes.
* Supports Project Developers with the preparation and execution of Indigenous
engagement strategies, including consultation records and reporting
requirements.
* Assist in the development of presentations and external communications
materials.
Qualifications:
* High school diploma/GED required.
* Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, indigenous studies, geography,
business, or a related field required.
* 3 or more years of experience in coordination, community relations,
consultation, or indigenous engagement role required.
* 3 or more years of experience working with or within indigenous communities
preferred.
* 3 or more years of renewable energy or infrastructure project experience is
an asset.
* Ability to travel domestically 16-30% required.
* Must possess a valid Driver’s license.
* Knowledge of Indigenous consultation and engagement processes, community
protocols, and Indigenous rights in the Canadian context.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt
communications for various audiences.
* Experience writing or compiling consultation reports or engagement
documentation.
* Ability to work collaboratively across internal and external stakeholder
groups.
* Comfortable with travel and working in both office and field settings.
* Functional competencies: accountability, attention to detail, communication,
customer focus, and teamwork.
* Knowledge of environmental assessments and permitting processes is an asset.
* Bilingual (written and oral skills) is an asset.
Anticipated base salary range: $104,000 - $130,000
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education,
qualifications, experience, and work location. This position is bonus eligible.
