Detailed OverviewSupporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families:
Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day operations of the simulation (SIM) centres/networks across Fraser Health. Provides SIM specific leadership, advice and support to the SIM staff regarding resource planning, the coordination of simulation activities, developing event calendars and efficient reservation processes for space/equipment, and coordinating regular and preventative maintenance of SIM program systems and equipment. Manages related staff.
Responsibilities
- Oversees and coordinates the technology and resources for planning and implementation of Fraser Health's simulation program. Responsibilities include coordinating the scheduling of events, in partnership with educators, based on internal and external user group needs, ensuring scenarios run in accordance with educational objectives and planning, and developing event calendars and a reservation process for space and equipment that ensures optimal use of resources.
- Collaborates with educators and simulation leads to support advanced technical simulations in centre, insitu or remotely.
- Collaborates with simulation leads, site leaders and educators to establish priorities, support efficient and effective purchase and use of equipment, and help maximize operational time. Advises, identifies and recommends new supplies and equipment that will meet the needs of the simulation program and clients.
- Coordinates regular and preventative maintenance of simulation program systems including hardware, software, human patient simulators, audiovisual systems, medical carts and other equipment according to manufacturers' recommendations. Tracks and manages service contracts and equipment warranties, monitors and ensures equipment safety and performance testing; works with vendors to correct deficiencies and ensures minimal down time and optimal equipment performance.
- Establishes and maintains professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. simulation equipment manufacturers, IMIT, health care professionals, provincial networks) regarding the simulation program and related equipment.
- Plans and collaborates with simulation leads, clinical leads, educators and stakeholders (staff, faculty, and students) across Fraser Health to promote learning and maintain standards of quality through the use of current simulation technology. This includes but is not limited to demonstrating and teaching technical aspects of operating simulators. May be required to role play, troubleshoot equipment and software, respond to technical failures, deliver medical information to participants, and arrange or perform clean up/dismantling of educational sessions.
- Collaborates with leaders and educators to determine opportunities for technology improvement and innovative ideas to enhance the realistic application of simulation scenarios.
- Provides tours of simulation centres across Fraser Health in accordance with established protocols to demonstrate and promote the capabilities of simulation education.
- Manages assigned technical staff; coordinates the recruitment and hiring into simulation support roles, coordinates work assignments, provides training and support and oversees performance management plans. Monitors performance and takes corrective action when necessary up to including dismissal.
- Coordinates simulation client, student, activity, and service data; manages databases and reports operational data including data that informs quality improvement for simulation operations.
- Coordinates and maintains stock of SIM consumables and supplies, SIM props such as intravenous systems, simulated blood, wound moulage, etc. Monitors and tracks equipment and supply budget in collaboration with leaders as required.
- Maintains proficiency in existing and emerging technologies in simulation, and translates into practice for Fraser Health educators; remains current with related literature and participates in approved simulation working groups, seminars and conferences.
QualificationsEducation and ExperienceMinimum diploma in a recognized technology or science related field, the CHSOS certification (Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist), and three (3) to five (5) years of recent, related experience with simulation technology and clinical education, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Professional/Technical Capabilities
- Knowledge of basic medical equipment and related supplies used in simulation based education (IV pump, defibrillator, thermometer, suction, IV, intubation).
- Ability to independently sustain expert knowledge in the simulation field including existing/emerging technologies.
- Ability to understand and learn new software and hardware use quickly and independently.
- Ability to manage staff effectively.
- Strong customer service skills that drive efficient and increasing use of simulation education resources.
- Ability to express technical information clearly and simply to facilitate understanding of simulation fidelity and related equipment.
- Ability to assess, troubleshoot and respond to simulation equipment failures in a timely fashion.
- General knowledge of LAN Networks, Microsoft Operating Systems and hardware and software related to simulation technology.
- Understanding of adult learning theory and how it influences curriculum design and the learning environment.
- Ability to foster engagement of health care professionals with different levels of knowledge related to simulation methodology.
