The Biogeoscience Institute in the Office of VP Research is currently seeking a Recurring Part-time Food Service Worker.
Location: Barrier Lake Field Station
**Job Location is in Kananaskis ~ 80kms from Main Campus - no public transport available.
This position reports directly to the Field Research Manager at the Biogeoscience Institute (BGI), with day-to-day accountabilities to the Executive Chef. The primary responsibility of the Food Service Worker is to assist with kitchen and dining room cleaning and maintenance while supporting food preparation. It is a recurring part-time role from May to September with possibility of extension depending on bookings. Requires availability for various shifts, including weekends and holidays. Key accountabilities include ensuring safe and efficient food production, maintaining cleanliness in a busy kitchen and dining area, dishwashing, and restocking dishware. Additional duties include preparing trays, peeling and cleaning vegetables, assembling salads, baking cookies, preparing coffee, replenishing dining room items, and organizing materials for bag lunches. Cleaning tasks involve loading and unloading dishwashers, clearing and cleaning steam tables, and mopping floors. Responsibilities also include putting away food orders and maintaining kitchen and dining area hygiene. Regular interaction with customers is expected.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Load and unload dishwashers, wash dishes, restock dishware, clean tables, and mop kitchen and dining room floors.
- Assist in serving buffet-style meals, prepare coffee, replenish dining room supplies (e.g., tea, juice, napkins), ensure food in the buffet is refilled as needed, monitor fridge and freezer temperatures in compliance with food safety regulations, help organize storage areas, prepare fruit trays, salads, and baked goods.
- Maintaining excellent personal hygiene, attire, and grooming.
- Accepting and applying constructive feedback.
- Demonstrating dependability, punctuality, and effective time management.
- Performing other duties as required.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Experience in the food service industry is an asset, though training will be provided.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively are essential.
- A pleasant and courteous attitude is required at all times.
