Assesses staffing needs, participates in the recruitment process and prepares recommendations regarding the selection of staff.

Supervises assigned staff, including scheduling, training, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions in consultation with manager and prepares recommendations regarding hiring, promotion, demotion and termination.

Provides leadership, administrative and technical guidance, coaching and development support to staff with a daily focus on customer service, ensuring consistency of approach and the fulfillment of service levels/objectives, corporate and departmental policies.

Provides a leadership role in conflict resolution meeting departmental service delivery objectives with the focus on providing excellent customer service.

Makes recommendations and participates in the development, analysis and implementation of department policies, practices, and procedures that enhance and improve the effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery.

Assists the Manager in the development of the Business Plan in accordance with department goals and budgets.

Maintains established service level standards and makes recommendations for revisions as required and ensures adherence to corporate and department customer service standards and service levels.

Provides functional and technical advice, guidance, explanations, and expertise to internal and external contacts regarding Section related matters.

Meets with department Managers, Directors, residents and contractors for planning, and status reporting site visits with staff; monitors contractors, inspects trees, responds to homeowner/resident concerns or complaints.

Prepares contract documents and tender specifications for services, supplies and equipment and leads department procurement initiatives.

Supervises the review, inspections, recommendations and associated reports/communications for subdivision assumption processes, development applications, minor variances and various permitting processes as they relate to the Tree Protection Bylaw and Tree Protection Protocol.

Ensures the maintenance of Forestry equipment, tools and supplies and makes recommendations for replacement and purchase of new equipment as required; ensures compliance with preventative maintenance schedules for all fleet assets.

Liaise with various internal and external teams/agencies and represents Vaughan Forestry on various technical advisory committees.

Conducts accident investigations for all workplace incidents and vehicle accidents and prepares all related reports/documentation; liaise with corporate Health \& Safety staff adhering to all time lines.

Participates in the development of annual budget estimates, submissions and reports and administers the allotted budget within the approved corporate system.

Provides leadership and assists the Manager in the strategic planning process and daily operational activity of the business unit.
