The work
As one of the Senior Data Platform Administrators, you will manage the company's databases and servers, and work with other administrators as part of the overall team. In addition, you will work with vendors and external service providers as well as company's physical and virtual servers, networks and security systems
The core responsibilities:Database Administration and support (70%)Maintain the company's database systems (MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and NoSQL etc.) including back-up, performance tuning, capacity planning, replication setup and maintenance, monitoring critical events, and documentation. Collaborate in projects on logical models and physical database design including rollout and upgrades. Work with BI tools including MS BI (SSIS, SSAS and SSRS) and IBM Cognos.
Work with the Data Warehouse. Implements business rules via stored procedures, middleware, or other technologies. Occasionally some scripting and programming may be required to enable and support functions like data loading, data transformation, data cleansing, and data extraction.
Support for very complex reports is also expected
Project Execution (20%)Perform tasks under the directions of the Project Manager and/or according to a project plan in a way such that the timeline of the project is observed, and the requirements of the tasks are satisfied
Server administration and troubleshooting (10%)Procure, setup, monitor, maintain, troubleshoot, and apply remedies for problems identified; work with infrastructure team and vendors to resolve issues; work with hot site vendors on hot site issues
Let's talk about you!A university degree in computer science or equivalent is required. Post graduate studies in computer science or a related subject is an asset6+ years of experience in an IT setting working with operating systems and database servers
The incumbent is expected to be on call 7x24Experience working in a banking or financial services environment is required
Microsoft Azure experience is required Ability to think out of the box for solutions to technical problems The incumbent is expected to interact with everyone including executives and thus good verbal and written skills are important
Database administration experience is a must:Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, data migration Experience on database technologies on Azure and clusteringSQL Development - ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints)Experience with ETL tools Experience in using database management tools
Familiar with configuration management and software version control concepts
Experience with scripting and Job scheduling experience in Powershell and Unix shell
Experience in troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, Transactional replication issues, log shipping issues, connectivity issues, security issues, windows server issues, MS SQL issues, etc
Experience in Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools
Strong knowledge of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching. How statistics work, how indexes are stored, how they can be created and managed effectively
Disaster recovery planning experience
Experience with Relational database running on a Unix platform will be a definite asset
