JOB SUMMARY
The mandate of the Health Promotion Service area is to advocate for safe, supportive, healthy community environments through the development of healthy public policy and the delivery of programs associated with Healthy Growth and Development, Chronic Disease Prevention, School Health, Immunization, Dental Health, and for advancing the development of healthy public policy to effect system-wide change that improves the population's health while addressing inequities in the health of subpopulations in Ottawa.
You are responsible for assisting the dentist and performing tasks related to providing a pleasant and efficient clinical situation.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 and Dental Assisting Course. No previous experience is necessary.
KNOWLEDGE
- Principles and practice of current dental assisting and reception techniques.
- Knowledge of sterilization, disinfection and cleaning techniques.
- Quality assurance processes applicable in the dental clinic environment.
- WHMIS training.
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- To assist the dentist effectively and efficiently.
- To maintain equipment, instruments and operatory in a clean, functional and orderly manner.
- To assist in the management of patients.
- To participate in general administrative duties such as supplies control and records management.
- To perform reception duties on occasion.

- Enthusiasm and motivation.
- Punctuality and reliability.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Language Requirement: Various language requirements; locations may require English only, French only, or bilingual competencies. Some positions require English oral, reading, and writing. Some positions require French oral, reading, and writing.
- Driver's License Requirement: This position requires the successful candidate to use their own transportation.
- You may initially be paid 95% of your starting rate of pay, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
