Position: Freight Operations Manager - Marine / Shipping
Location: Southampton
Salary: up to £80,000
We are recruiting for our client, a market leader in marine logistics, bridging oceans and offering world-class transportation and shipping solutions. As they expand their services, they are looking for a highly skilled Freight Operations Manager - Marine / Shipping, who is passionate about the Marine freight forwarding industry and who has the vision to help them provide exceptional service.
As a Freight Operations Manager, you will be responsible for shaping UK operations and making the impossible happen for clients. You will drive operational excellence, leading a team of professionals to implement strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and lead a team of 12 professionals/freight forwarders, to ensure efficient and effective marine operations
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of their bespoke freight and marine logistics, ensuring efficient cargo movements
- Lead, mentor and develop the marine operations team
- Full income statement ownership
- Full operational and financial responsibility for the department, including file profitability and disbursement management
- Interaction with shipping lines and transport suppliers concerning rate discussions and negotiations
- Build strong and lasting relationships with key partners and represent the company at strategic events
- Monitor industry trends and advancements to improve operational effectiveness
- Shape and collaborate with each department, to align company goals
- Pursue new opportunities, develop partnerships and strive to push the company forward
- Make important, key decisions
- International travel
Requirements:
- Proven managerial experience in Ocean Freight / Marine Logistics
- Managed a team in a customs-clearing environment
- High level of operational exposure to Sea freight Export and Cross-trade shipments (project/capital equipment shipments would be advantageous)
- Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team
- Demonstrate expertise in business strategy and operations
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers and wider team
- Develop trust and respect from colleagues \& clients alike
- Availability to travel internationally
