Job Summary:
The Florist Designer plays a vital role in our design team, utilizing established floral design skills and a growing understanding of floral care and techniques to create beautiful arrangements for a variety of occasions. This position requires a blend of creativity, technical proficiency, and customer interaction. They will work independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively with other team members to fulfill customer orders and maintain the shop's aesthetic.
Responsibilities:
* Floral Design and Creation:
* Independently create a range of floral designs, including bouquets, centerpieces, and sympathy arrangements, following established guidelines and customer specifications.
* Demonstrate proficiency in various design styles and techniques, adapting to different aesthetic preferences.
* Select and condition fresh flowers and foliage, ensuring optimal quality and longevity.
* Accurately interpret and fulfill custom orders based on client consultations or order forms.
* Contribute creative ideas and suggestions for new designs and seasonal offerings.
* Floral Care and Maintenance:
* Process and hydrate incoming flower shipments according to best practices.
* Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the flower preparation areas, coolers, and workstations.
* Monitor flower inventory and report any quality issues or shortages.
* Implement proper rotation and disposal of flowers to minimize waste.
* Customer Service and Sales:
* Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner, understanding their needs and preferences.
* Provide knowledgeable information about flower types, availability, and care.
* Assist with taking customer orders in person, over the phone, or online, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
* Upsell and suggest complementary products to enhance customer satisfaction and sales.
* Handle customer inquiries and resolve minor issues effectively, escalating more complex situations as needed.
* Shop Operations and Teamwork:
* Assist with receiving and unpacking flower deliveries.
* Help maintain the overall appearance and cleanliness of the shop.
* Collaborate effectively with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely order fulfillment.
* Follow shop policies and procedures.
* Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive and supportive work environment.
Qualifications:
* Minimum 2 years of professional experience as a florist or in a related floral industry role.
* Solid understanding of floral design principles, techniques, and color theory.
* Proficiency in creating a variety of arrangement styles, including hand-tied bouquets, vase arrangements, and basic event work.
* Knowledge of different flower and foliage types, their seasonality, and proper care techniques.
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
* Excellent customer service and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
* Physical ability to lift and carry floral supplies and arrangements, stand for extended periods, and work in varying temperatures.
* Basic computer skills for order processing and point-of-sale systems (preferred).
* Formal floral design training or certification (an asset).
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 -- 30 per week
