Job Description
Urban Life Solutions has an opening available for an Equipment Operator in our Calgary office within the Landscape Construction division. Under the direction of the Superintendent and Manager, this position will be responsible for performing a variety of tasks and hauling/operating our equipment to assist in the construction of commercial and government (municipal, provincial and federal) landscapes while providing exceptional customer service at all times. Our operators are also required to get out of the machines and work manually with the ULS crews.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrating safety leadership and safe work practices
- Working in accordance with ULS policies and procedures
- Providing exceptional customer service and maintaining ULS client relationships
- Ability to drive, load, and secure equipment on trucks and trailers
- Operating and troubleshooting a variety of equipment including motorized hand tools and some ride on equipment with valid operating certifications (backhoe, skid steer, loaders, tandems, sanders, excavators); Certificates available through training at Urban Life Solutions.
- Equipment pre and post trip inspections and hazard assessment completion
- Constructing various structures including patios, decks, retaining walls, waterfalls and ponds
- Digging, raking, grading, planting, mulching
- Carrying/ hauling material
- Spreading topsoil and laying sod
- Planting trees, shrubs and perennials
- Snow removal -- winter season (operating equipment)
- Additional tasks as required
Basic/Required Qualifications
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Driver's License and proof of satisfactory driver's abstract
- Experience with operating skid steers, loaders and excavators
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience
- Operating certifications for various types of equipment and tools
- Experience and be able to grade effectively in a machine
- Skilled use of common hand and power tools
- Ability to complete measurements and mathematical calculations
- Exceptional Customer Service skills
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions
- Ability to maintain simple records and make verbal reports
- Strong adherence to ULS safety policies and protocol
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous landscaping, snow removal and/or maintenance experience is an asset
- Ability to take direction, give direction, learn and work independently as well as part of a team
- Punctual and dependable
- Motivated and energetic team player with an attention to detail and great work ethic
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy intensive tasks for extended periods of time
- Working in a variety of outdoor environments with the ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures, noise, dust and wet environments
- Physically demanding position
- Significant standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling
- Operating various heavy equipment (skid steers and excavators)
- Repetitive Motions
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push and pull weights of up to 100 lbs
