The Opportunity:
WSPis looking for an Engineer, Planner, or Technologist who is enthusiastic about collaborating on urban mobility solutions. This position will be responsible for planning and designing various active transportation, trails and complete streets improvements. The Active Transportation and Complete Streets Centre of Excellence at WSP works on cutting-edge projects that help foster healthier, safer, more equitable, and more sustainable communities. Our Transportation Planning Department offers planning and engineering services for a full range of transportation challenges and works closely with other disciplines at WSP like municipal roads, landscape architecture and urban design, land development and environmental planning. We deliver multi-modal regional and area transportation studies, pedestrian, cycling, trails and complete streets planning and design, Transportation Demand Management (TDM), environmental assessments (EAs), safety reviews, Vision Zero strategies, shared and micro-mobility plans and more.

What you can expect do here:
- Contributing to active transportation, complete streets and multi-modal transportation planning and design projects
- Contribute to conceptual and preliminary design assignments using AutoCAD or Microstation
- Prepare drawings, charts, maps, graphics and other visualizations associated with transportation infrastructure projects to communicate technical details and recommendations
- Prepare documentation, including technical memos and reports to communicate technical results and recommendations
- Collaborate with multiple disciplines and stakeholders including transportation/traffic engineers, planners, designers, landscape architects and public consultation specialists to resolve design challenges, applying best practices and creative thinking
- Attending and participating in client and public meetings
- Participating in field work as required (site visits, inventories, pedestrian, cycling, trail, transit, traffic, and parking counts)
- Other duties as assigned
What you'll bring to WSP:
- Degree in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning; a Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology; or similar. Applicants with relevant experience having other educational qualifications may also be considered.
- Working towards P.Eng. License from the Professional Engineers of Ontario, RPP from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute, or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.
- Strong level of proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation. Experience with Civil 3D or InRoads would be an asset.
- Experience in preparation of road or trail design drawings. Experience in the preparation of cost estimates for transportation projects would be an asset.
- Preference given to those with over 2 years of full-time professional experience. New graduates may also be considered.
- Knowledge of best practices and design guidance related to roadway, pedestrian, universal accessibility, and bikeway design.
- Able to demonstrate strong technical writing and presentation skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work within a busy and close-knit hybrid team environment.
- Experience or knowledge of Synchro/SimTraffic or VISSIM would be an asset.
- Experience or knowledge of Beyond Typicals, Sketch-up, Lumion, Adobe Creative Suite and other visualization software would be an asset.
- Lived experience travelling urban and suburban areas on foot, by bicycle, by transit or using a mobility aid.
