Toronto's new Ontario Line subway is now under construction. The Connect 6ix consortium has a key role in this project, delivering the trains, the signaling system, and the operations, storage, and maintenance facility. Connect 6ix will also operate the Ontario Line for a 30-year term once it comes into service.
Role Overview The Health and Safety coordinator works with line management to ensure support provided in achieving zero incident performance in health and safety on the assigned area/project. Roles and Responsibilities: Oversee the Health \& Safety on assigned construction sites.
Advise the site team on health and safety issues, identify gaps and opportunity for improvement. Develop, implement, communicate and/or monitor site specific safety plans and documents related to hazard identification and assessment, site specific safe work plans, emergency response etc. Monitors local regulations and client requirements and standards along with company policies and standards to ensure compliance.
Assist external safety inspections (MOL, MX/other departments) and follow up to close items. Conduct Site specific safety orientations/emergency drills/Stand downs. Conduct site safety observations to monitor adherence to safe work procedures of site staff, unionized workforce, and subcontractors.
Conduct/provide guidance with respect to worksite incident investigations and preparation of reports. Follow up for closure of action plans. Monitor subcontractor's safety performance.
Participate/lead site JHSC/WTC in fulfilling their mandates. Document and file all site related health and safety data. Complete additional assignments and responsibilities as required/requested by Health and Safety Manager or Senior Management.
Skills and Qualifications: Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Occupational Health \& Safety, Engineering Technology, Science), combined with several years' experience in the delivery of Occupational Health, Safety, Programs with focus on a construction/rail environment; or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent. Minimum 5 years' experience in the performance of safety monitoring and oversight functions of large construction/rail projects. Demonstrate knowledge of the Heavy construction industry and / or rail sector.
Communicate in a variety of mediums. Ability to solve practical problems. Use office technology, software, and applications.
Understand OHSA, WSIB regulations, and apply relevant laws and regulations. Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations for Construction Projects, WHMIS, First Aid, Technical Standards and Safety Act and Workplace and Safety Insurance Act). Must have a valid Province of Ontario Class G driver's licence.
