Summary
CEPAL (Canadian-Palestinian Educational Exchange) is growing and needs a volunteer Board Director to oversee a communication strategy of activities, especially of its new HEAP Program (Higher Ed Access for Palestine).
Description
The general roleof this Board position holder is to develop and implement a communications strategy for all of its activities, but most especially for its new HEAP program (https://cepal.ca/ Higher Ed Access for Palestine)
Specific duties include
- Responsibility for the management and timely release of information and announcements, which would include:
- Social media platform set up and handling
- Content development and social-media posting timelines
- Periodic postings via Mail Chimp to CEPAL's mailing list subscribers
- Website content creation and revision (with other contributors)
- Posters, flyers or brochures for CEPAL events and campaigns
- Assisting fellow board members in reaching the widest possible audience for their fundraising, recruitment, and awareness raising initiatives
- Completing administrative duties associated with the implementation of the communications strategy. These duties would include setting up and maintaining lists of contacts, developing an outline for communications financing and keeping spending on budget and reported, ensuring that information is securely maintained and effectively shared intra-organizationally.
Skills relevant to this position
- Background or experience in marketing, advertising, or awareness raising
- Strong leadership qualities
- Solid background in historical, social, political and economic conditions of Palestinian refugees, as well as recent Palestinian and Lebanese history in general
- Strong people, organizational and communication skills
- Well-developed management skills
- Strong digital media/social skills
- Training in web editing or graphic design an asset
- Ability to work within a team and foster team spirit
- Knowledge of Arabic and/or French an asset
Shared Responsibilities as a Director
- Ensuring that all events or communications with the public, organizations and media convey CEPAL's mandate and vision, and are carried out in accordance with by-laws and policies
- Continuing to develop CEPAL's membership and support base
- Ensuring that CEPAL's financial policies are strictly adhered to and its financial responsibilities, including its obligations as a charitable organization, are met.
- Formulating the list of CEPAL's main priorities for the year, and attending virtual board meetings to update the Board and plan future activities
- Ensuring that crucial tasks are carried out, and providing the time to complete these. Traditionally, work during busier periods could take an average of 12-15 hours a week.
