Brightstar Law is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Senior Real Estate Law Clerk to join our dynamic and growing team. As a key member of our firm, you will take ownership of real estate files from open to close, provide strategic support to our lawyer, and mentor junior staff. Our practice is known for clear communication, a client-first approach, and precision in every transaction.
We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is confident managing files independently, and brings a strong understanding of real estate law and procedures. This is an exciting opportunity to play a leadership role within a collaborative and tight-knit team.
Our team currently includes one lawyer, two law clerks, one bookkeeper, one receptionist, and one legal assistant. This role is ideal for a clerk who enjoys both autonomy and collaboration, and who is excited about helping shape a boutique practice.
Our downtown Toronto office offers the possibility of remote work with a preference for candidates available to attend the office when needed.
Responsibilities:
- Manage residential and commercial real estate transactions from intake to post-closing independently.
- Conduct and review title and off-title searches; identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Draft, review, and register closing documents, including Agreements of Purchase and Sale, Transfer/Deed of Land, Charge/Mortgage, and more.
- Communicate with clients, lenders, realtors, and other counsel in a professional and timely manner.
- Mentor and support junior clerks and legal assistants.
- Maintain well-organized and detailed files, ensuring all deadlines and closing dates are met.
- Utilize Teraview and other legal software efficiently.
- Stay current on changes in real estate law and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a real estate law clerk in Ontario.
- Successful completion of a recognized law clerk program is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of real estate conveyancing.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; client-focused.
- Proficiency with Teraview and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Comfortable mentoring junior team members and contributing to a positive team culture.
