Packaging Structural Designer -- Folding Cartons
We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Packaging Structural Designer to create innovative, production-ready designs for folding carton packaging. This role involves working closely with Sales, Project Managers, and Production to deliver packaging solutions that meet or exceed client expectations, while staying within manufacturing capabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare print ready artwork for flexo and digital printing on cardboard materials, ensuring accurate colour separation, trapping, and dielines.
- Design and develop structural packaging concepts using ArtiosCAD, primarily for Folding Carton.
- Review incoming projects; clarify requirements with Project Managers or clients when necessary.
- Determine the feasibility of modifying existing designs versus developing new concepts from scratch.
- Collaborate with Account Managers and clients to refine design parameters and ensure alignment with expectations.
- Provide accurate routing specifications that align with machine and production capabilities.
- Support the Sales team with technical information and participate in customer visits when required.
- Order, review, and quality-check tooling and files.
- Generate and distribute manufacturing specs to internal teams and external suppliers.
- Being able to work with a CAD table for preliminary design purposes.
- Ensure all designs and documentation comply with ISO and internal quality standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, packaging materials, and production processes.
- Communicate delays or deviations in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders.
- Contribute to the upkeep and organization of the Design Department.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Diploma or certificate from a recognized college or technical school (2--3 years)
- Minimum 2--3 years of experience in structural packaging design, specifically with folding cartons
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in prepress design.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
Technical Skill Requirements:
- Proficient in ArtiosCAD (mandatory)
- Working knowledge of Cape/Tops and Adobe Illustrator
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong understanding of folding carton production processes
Soft Skills:
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Proven ability to collaborate across departments and build positive working relationships
