Position Summary
The Schroeder Arthritis Institute is the largest multidisciplinary arthritis institute in Canada, encompassing both a basic science and clinical research perspective. Based at the University Health Network, the Schroeder Arthritis Institute, is seeking a basic Scientist in the area of translational research in disc, spine, musculoskeletal biology and pain. Priority will be given to individuals with an established research focus on disc and cartilage biology including multiomic and epigenetic systemic and tissue biomarkers. The successful candidate will have a PhD or MD/PhD, postdoctoral experience and demonstrated research excellence. This search is focused on an early career investigator, and the successful candidate will be expected to qualify for an appointment at the Assistant Professor level at the University of Toronto.
Duties
- Lead an independent research program in prognostic biomarker research related to osteoarthritis including the spine and disc.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons, radiologists, data scientists, and industry partners.
- Design and conduct studies to identify predictive biomarkers of disease onset and progression.
- Secure external funding through competitive grant applications (e.g., CIHR, industry).
- Publish high-impact findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national/international conferences.
- Mentor graduate students, trainees, and research staff.
Qualifications
- PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in a relevant field
- Candidates are expected to demonstrate evidence of: 1) track record of peer-reviewed publications; 2) successful research funding (peer-reviewed grants, fellowships, etc.) and 3) presentations at significant conferences.
- Individuals with expertise in developing cutting-edge technologies and strengths in the following areas are particularly encouraged to apply: spine osteoarthritis, disc degeneration and epigenetics in osteoarthritis.
