Position Summary
The Schroeder Arthritis Institute, Canada's largest multidisciplinary arthritis institute, seeks a basic Scientist in translational research in disc, spine, musculoskeletal biology, and pain. Priority will be given to candidates with an established focus on disc and cartilage biology, including multiomic and epigenetic systemic and tissue biomarkers. The successful candidate will hold a PhD or MD/PhD, postdoctoral experience, and demonstrate research excellence. The role is focused on early career investigators aiming for an appointment at the Assistant Professor level at the University of Toronto.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead an independent research program on prognostic biomarkers related to osteoarthritis, including the spine and disc.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including rheumatologists, orthopedic surgeons, radiologists, data scientists, and industry partners.
- Design and conduct studies to identify predictive biomarkers of disease onset and progression.
- Secure external funding through grants (e.g., CIHR, industry).
- Publish in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
- Mentor students, trainees, and research staff.
Qualifications
- PhD, MD/PhD, or equivalent in relevant fields.
- Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, successful research funding, and conference presentations.
- Expertise in spine osteoarthritis, disc degeneration, and epigenetics is encouraged.
