ABOUT THE ROLE
The Associate Tax Manager -- Audits and Special Projects role is part of the North American Tax team and is located in Mississauga, Ontario. The incumbent will support the Income and Indirect tax functions with audits (both external tax authority audits and internal SOX audits) and special projects. This role also assists with compliance and tax reporting functions when needed.
WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
- Support both the Income and Indirect tax function in gathering information and drafting responses to external tax authorities' queries and internal audit SOX controls.
- Assist the Head of Tax -- Canada and/or Tax Managers in various tax planning matters and special projects.
- Provide support to the Income and Indirect tax functions in analyzing and documenting new tax legislation and assisting in implementing required changes to tax processes.
- When required, assist in the preparation of income tax returns and/or indirect tax returns and assist in the preparation of the monthly and quarterly income tax provisions.
- Maintain files with appropriate documentation to support all tax positions, accounting entries, assessments/audit information, etc.
- Maintain appropriate tax controls, under SOX, for audits and special projects and ensure updates are monitored and kept up to date.
- Maintain relationships with external tax auditors.
- Identify and assist in implementing process improvements related to tax audits gained from internal and external reviews.
- Contribute towards the tax team's KPIs such as cash taxes and ETR measurements.
- Keep abreast of changes in tax statutes and regulations and incorporate relevant changes in policies to processes.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Education: Undergraduate degree required in accounting, business, commerce or equivalent experience. Professional accounting designation required (CA, CMA, CGA or CPA).

Additional Education Preferred: Master degree or CICA in-depth tax course completion or in progress.

Field of Study Preferred: Accounting, Business, Commerce

Required Work Experience:
-
A minimum of 3-5 years of accounting and tax experience in public accounting and/or within the tax department of a multinational and/or large corporation.

Previous work in a similar industry would be an asset.

Required Training/Certifications: Professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA or CPA).

Required Technical Skills:
-
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Self-starter and highly motivated.

Excellent knowledge of tax legislation and accounting principles under both IFRS and US GAAP.

Strong proficiency with MS Word, Excel (Pivot Tables and V-Lookups) and Taxprep software.

Experience with online tax research tools and materials.

Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt quickly to change.

Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.

Familiarity with different tax software packages including databases and SAP is an asset

Travel Requirements: Up to 0-5%
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of accounting and tax within the manufacturing and/or construction industry would be an asset.
