FRESCo is currently seeking a self-motivated and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for reducing energy and GHG emissions of existing buildings.
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for leading FRESCo's electrical consulting, design, drafting, and construction administration. The qualified candidate will work closely with our energy assessment, mechanical engineering, program delivery, and policy and strategy teams to provide electrical design expertise and consulting services for building efficiency and decarbonization retrofit projects. This individual will also be the key contact and collaborator with our electrical engineering partners, sub-consultants, and electrical contractors; and will have experience in surveying existing equipment on sites, electrical load calculations (based both on existing consumption, measurements and CEC), electrical design, load management, heat pump applications, EV chargers, and on-site renewable energy systems.

- Providing energy, electrical and mechanical engineering services for the multi-unit residential, commercial and institutional building sectors. While working in all sectors, FRESCo has established a specialty in multi-unit residential building retrofits.
- Designing and delivering innovative pilot programs, such as the Rental Apartment Retrofit Accelerator and the Climate Action Property Tax Exception Program .
- Leading, and supporting, research on advancing policy and strategy related to building energy efficiency.

For example, addressing on-site decarbonization barriers, addressing issues with electrical capacity, introducing new technologies, exploring load management solutions, and advancing retrofit solutions that improve building and occupant resilience (including cooling, indoor air quality, and waste heat recovery).

- Growing a multidisciplinary team to integrate the learnings from our research, program design and delivery, and energy/mechanical/electrical engineering to bring decarbonization projects into reality.

The Role
- Support FRESCO's diverse building retrofit projects and programs with your electrical engineering expertise.
- Support FRESCO's business development efforts for electrical engineering projects.
- Function as a key contact for company collaboration with our electrical engineering sub-contractors and partners.
- Conduct electrical load calculations for various building ty pes and sizes.
- Prepare construction documents, including drawings, specifications, and calculations.
- Collaborate with clients, mechanical and energy engineers, other consultant partners, electrical contractors, and other project team members to ensure coordinated work.
- Research for the sourcing of equipment and vendors.
- Assist team members with planning, studies, and assessments.
- Assist with policy and research projects related to electrical engineering.
- Conduct site reviews to determine and document existing conditions.
- Prepare electrical studies and design calculations such as feeder sizing, voltage drop, overcurrent protection, fault current, lighting calculations, and related tasks.
- Liaise with utilities and other stakeholders for service upgrades.
- Oversee construction and commissioning process, and prepare documentation such as field reports, change orders, and shop drawing review.
- Work with our team on researching, designing and implementing solutions to big challenges.
- Provide relevant training and orientation to the team on topics related to electrical engineering (i.e. site data collection).
- Other electrical engineering related tasks to support FRESCo's diverse work.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Registered as a P.Eng. with EGBC.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent.
- 7+ years of experience in electrical consulting engineering, specifically in the building industry. Ideally experience in multi-unit residential and commercial.
- Proficiency in feasibility studies for electrical load additions to existing buildings including load calculations, planning electrical infrastructure upgrades and costing estimation.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with the design of electrical power distribution systems, generator systems, load management, EV charging infrastructure and renewable energy.
- Familiarity with building mechanical systems is preferred, but not mandatory.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with clients, utilities, contractors and other Engineering disciplines.
- Detail-oriented and accountable.
- Experience working with the Canadian Electrical Code.
