The Inclusive Education Assistant assists principals, teachers, educational assistants and other staff in planning, developing and implementing inclusive programming for students.
Major responsibilities include:
- Keeps abreast of developments in inclusive programming. Assists teachers and other school staff in program development for inclusive education.
- Works with school based inclusive education coordinator to grow their capacity and assist with implementing programming.
- In consultation with the Director of Inclusive Education, interprets testing results based upon the Alberta Education guidelines.
- In consultation with the Director of Inclusive Education, coordinates the involvement of specialist services from outside agencies as needed.
- Evaluate and recommend materials, teaching aids, equipment, and programs to improve instruction.
- Provides teachers with counsel and assistance regarding the instructional programs and educational environment for inclusive education.
- Plans educational in-services for staff as required.
- At the discretion of the Director of Inclusive Education, assists with student referrals, observations, screenings and the identification procedure.
- Act as a liaison between Inclusive education coordinator, administrators and parents.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- This position may involve extensive travel within Northland School Division to provide support to schools, staff and students.
- Must hold or qualify for Alberta teaching certification and a Leadership Quality Standard certificate.
- Must hold a Bachelor of Education (BEd.) degree.
