About the Opportunity :
Corteva Agriscience is seeking research assistants to join our innovative team at Georgetown, Ontario. This is a unique chance to be a part of cutting-edge research in plant breeding and seed development. You will gain valuable experience supporting both molecular lab operations and greenhouse / field activities , with a focus on canola breeding. This is a temporary role perfect for science graduates looking to grow their hands-on research experience in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities :
- DNA extraction and lab work (PCR setup, molecular biology techniques)
- Greenhouse tasks : planting, plant care (staking, tying, pruning)
- Leaf tissue collection in greenhouse / field
- Controlled crossing : CMS and emasculation techniques
- Plant harvesting, threshing, grain cleaning
- Seed inventory tasks : labeling, weighing, packaging
- Seed treatment application (as needed)
- Field preparation and maintenance tasks (as needed)
- Support for data collection and note-taking
- Possible driving of company vehicle for work-related tasks
- Assist with cage constructions and other field prep work
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor's Degree in a Science field required (Biology preferred)
- Prior lab experience, especially with DNA isolation , PCR , and lab automation
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques
- Strong computer proficiency and organizational skills
- Attention to detail with the ability to multitask
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated, adaptable, and team-oriented
- Ability to work in hot environments (30--35°C) and perform physically demanding tasks
- Must have reliable transportation (no public transit available)
- Must be safety-conscious and willing to work overtime when required
