The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre located in Montreal, Quebec. It is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Position Summary
Department / Research Program: Endocrine Genetics Lab (CHHD).
General Duties
- Participate in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments.
- Perform DNA extraction, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, and IGV.
- Prepare libraries and conduct sequencing.
- Manage daily laboratory operations, including supervising students, ordering materials and reagents, and maintaining accurate records.
- Prepare and set up materials and equipment.
- Record results, perform calculations, and compile data; maintain records and files.
- Demonstrate operation of laboratory apparatus and techniques.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and perform minor repairs; arrange for servicing when necessary.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of the work area.
- Maintain inventory and purchase equipment and materials.
- Stay updated on new developments in the field to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Operate various equipment such as balances, pH meters, pipettors, laminar flow hoods, incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, centrifuges, thermocyclers, electrophoresis apparatus, computers, and audio-visual equipment.
- Manage waste disposal procedures.
- Communicate with different clinics across Canada for clinical trials.
- Manage murine colonies.
