The Research Centre in the Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Research Coordinator will report to the Principle Investigator on the project, Transforming Masculinities: A Global Study on Muslim Men participating in Gender Justice and Violence Against Women (VAW) Prevention. The aims of this study are to understand the factors that influence men's decisions to become involved in gender justice work and the transformative impacts of this involvement. The Research Coordinator will work up to an average of 25 hours per week.
The Research Coordinator will assist in coordinating the various steps of the project including preparation and submission of research grant applications, application to Research Ethics Board and assisting the PI in developing informational materials pertaining to the study. Additionally, the Research Coordinator will be involved in coordinating data collection and analysis, as well as manuscript writing, with international stakeholders, working respectfully and collaboratively.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- In collaboration with the Principal Investigator, develop the structure, objectives, research project, evaluating research activities and recommending improvements when appropriate.
- Working closely with the Principal Investigator in the coordination of project resources.
- Ensures smooth and efficient day-to-day operation of research and data collection activities.
- Manages own time effectively and ensures Principal Investigator is kept informed of activities and progress of work.
- Advise regarding selection of appropriate research measures.
- Organize and compile study data and oversee data entry into project database.
- Work closely with the Principal Investigator in the development of manuscripts, reports and grant proposals relevant to the project including literature searches and editing.
- Works closely with the Principal Investigator in the preparation of presentations related to the research project, and may be called upon by the Principal Investigator to act as their representative in the presentation of the research material to internal or external agencies, related publications, or journals.
- Assist in preparation of Research Ethics Board applications.
- Specific duties will vary with the needs and stage of development of the project.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Health Sciences, Education, or other related fields.
- 2-3 years of experience in research programs or projects.
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- Must be able to conduct literature reviews and develop a thorough understanding of the field of research.
- Ability to provide support to other members of the team and related units or teams.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with community and academic partners.
- Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
- Previous experience in writing peer reviewed articles for publication.
- Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies (e.g. SSHRC).
- Demonstrated ability in professional writing, preparing reports, literature reviews and research manuscripts for the purpose of presentation and publication.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and oral), and organizational skills is required.
- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
- Effectively and efficiently deal with multiple simultaneous priorities.
- Previous experience working in the university environment is an asset.
- Open to learning and develop and willing to accept new challenges and assignments.
