The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a Community Engagement & Outreach Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting the to the Manager, Community Partnerships and Clinical Affairs, this position addresses needs within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The workload for this position is split between the co-ordination of youth programing and community outreach activities. Workload will vary based on season and other demands.
The work requires a high degree of creativity, judgment, decision-making, and attention to detail. This work also requires the ability to address the multiple and potentially conflicting requests for engagement from UCVM in community events. Strong communication skills are essential to liaise between the requests of researchers, academics, outreach programming and external stakeholders. The work is of varying complexity, may have peak periods, short timelines for completion, and is often time sensitive. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential to liaise with internal and external stakeholders in a respectful and professional manner.
This position will have an office located at the Spy Hill Campus; however, regular travel to the Foothills Campus and community events will be required. This position is full-time working 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, however, there will be a need to work outside of regular hours, including evenings and weekends.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Co-coordination of community engagement and outreach activities, with a focus on supporting UCVMs indigenous engagement strategy. Including but not limited to:
- Liaising and building relationships with community groups
- Organizing materials and supplies required for event
- Attending community events
- Coordinating faculty, staff or students for event support
- This position will develop outreach programs and material. Outreach projects include:
- organization and development of youth-based outreach materials and programing
- working with community partners and key stakeholders to develop curriculum
- working with our communications and development team, create outreach materials (trade articles for print or web, social media, and videos) on research projects and other UCVM activities
- Ensures deliverables of the project and stakeholder expectations are met
- Creates interim and final reports
- Facilitates working groups and advisory committees
- Involved with hosting and touring various groups at UCVM
- Provide support for UCVM Indigenous strategy implementation committee
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A Bachelors degree in a related discipline (education, animal science) and 3-5 years' experience is required
- Experience developing educational programs for youth is preferred
- Must have the ability to assess, plan, coordinate, and work under direction of senior management
- Must demonstrate ability to efficiently organize and document work with excellent attention to detail
- Demonstrated strong communication and team skills is required
- Must be flexible with the ability to prioritize and refocus to meet deadlines
- Must be able to maintain clear communication with stakeholders on progress and emerging issues
- Ability to problem solve to address implementation issues is critical to success in the role
- Reliable means of transportation to our Spy Hill campus, and community engagement events is essential
- Demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office, including moderate expertise with Excel, and project management software is required
- Must demonstrate professionalism, discretion, courtesy, and respect in all interactions
- Interest in a teaching and learning environment is considered an asset
- University experience is an asset
