Description
The Department of Paediatrics in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Research Director.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Maintain weekly email communication with the principal investigator to provide updates on completed tasks and discuss upcoming responsibilities
- Actively participate in team meetings held biweekly or more frequently as required, contributing to discussions and shared goals
- Formulate research questions that address gaps in the literature, with guidance and feedback from the principal investigator and collaborators
- Prepare, submit, and revise research project applications for review by the university ethics board
- Design studies, conduct statistical analyses, create tables and figures, and interpret findings to address specific research questions
- Develop and present scientific outputs, including abstracts, posters, and oral presentations
- Represent research projects at conferences and meetings to foster collaboration and networking opportunities
- Collaborate effectively with analysts, scientists, and clinicians, demonstrating clear communication and openness to constructive feedback
- Support team-led projects as a co-author by contributing to study design, statistical analyses, data visualizations, and revisions of abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts
- Engage in the peer review process, offering constructive and thoughtful feedback on team members' work
- Provide mentorship and training to junior staff members and students
- Identify personal learning and career development goals, working collaboratively with the principal investigator and experienced team members to achieve them through coaching and mentorship
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Graduate degree in epidemiology, statistics, public health, or a related field
- 7 to 10 years of experience in medical research and/or education
- Expertise in establishing respiratory disease surveillance systems using population-level clinical and laboratory data
- Proven experience in developing surveillance measures, conducting data analyses, creating visualizations, and interpreting results
- Advanced knowledge of epidemiological study design and proficiency in using statistical analysis software
- Strong oral communication skills, demonstrated by delivering poster and oral presentations at medical or scientific conferences
- Strong scientific and academic writing abilities, evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals
