Job Description: CPA Student GAME ON – OLG needs you We’ve said GAME ON, and we mean it – OLG is rapidly transforming its organization to better serve Ontarians by delivering great gaming experiences through our digital, retail lottery, and land-based gaming channels. OLG is a pre-approved Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) training office, offering students an exciting and involved 30-month rotational program starting in External Reporting (18-months) and finishing in Financial Planning and Analysis (12-months). OLG CPA students gain the necessary practical experience requirements required by CPA Ontario and are provided a CPA Mentor to support successful completion of CPA’s enabling competencies. Our training office is structured to optimize the student experience, providing challenging opportunities for development, a robust network of experienced CPAs and support to work towards achieving their designation. Students are strategically placed within the consolidation teams, comprised of technical subject matter experts, working together to meet regulatory reporting requirements, organizational planning needs and otherwise supporting the division in achieving its strategic objectives. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING: Understand the differing financial reporting needs of external stakeholders (Province of Ontario, Charities, Municipalities, and Regulators) and compliance with current and future financial reporting standards (i.e., IFRS) and assess how they are presented and disclosed on the financial statements. Prepare non-routine and/or complex journal entries and advise on accounting policy using IFRS standards. Deliver presentations, memos, and working papers on accounting issues with recommendations for technical treatment. Collaborate in the preparation of OLG's quarterly and annual consolidated external financial statements and prepare/analyze sections of the consolidated financial statements, annual note disclosures, annual reports and MD&A with extensive exposure to various lines of business and executives. Liaise with the external financial statement auditors (both Financial and Technology teams) in coordinating deliverables, preparing working papers and otherwise supporting the engagement. Interpret and analyze financial statements: ratios and trend analysis based on timing and financial statement presentation, including consideration for interrelationships between the statements. Prepare quarterly Balance Sheet commentary and explanation of changes, cash flow analysis and reporting for business leaders. FP&A (12-month rotation) On a monthly/quarterly basis, identify revenue and expense variances to in-year forecasts and annual budget and provide foresight into trends and opportunities. Analyze certain line of business costs based on comparative information (industry, other lines of business, etc.) in order to identify opportunities for cost reduction. Provide recommendations to FP&A Management and assist FP&A in presenting opportunities to business leaders, as appropriate. Design and maintain accurate financial models used to facilitate and verify the compilation and upload of forecasts and budgets in D365; explain information requirements to other stakeholders within OLG based on the understanding of differing information needs. Assess the reasonableness of forecasts/budgets gathered from stakeholders and challenge the assumptions used, as appropriate. Evaluate inputs for the periodic re-forecast and annual budget process ensuring it is accurate and identifying any gaps in the supporting information; using the information supplied, prepare the financial re-forecast and budget, analyze actual results against the budget and re-forecast P&Ls, graphs and tables to facilitate FP&A Management’s discussion. Assist with preparation of monthly results, forecast, and annual business plan presentations to senior management Design and maintain accurate dashboards used for proceeds and expense tracking (weekly, monthly, re-forecast and budget). WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: Knowledge: Completion of a University degree in finance, accounting, business or a related field Active enrollment in CPA Program (Student membership and requirements met for CPA PEP enrollment) Experience: Experience with Office 365, in particular Excel, Power BI and PowerPoint and other tools that support financial processes (ERPs, Data Lakes, and Workflow tools) Experience in financial modeling an asset Skills: Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and able to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Communication skills to convey complex financial information clearly and concisely to a non-technical audience.
