Job DescriptionThe Director, Assurance and Advisory, is responsible for providing independent assurance and advisory services on an enterprise-wide basis, including leading audit engagements, delivering the Audit Plan and working collaboratively with our business to help instill risk and control discipline in CPPIB’s core activities.Team DescriptionReporting to the Managing Director of Assurance & Advisory, the Director role is central to shaping and executing A&A’s multi-year strategy, ensuring the function continues to deliver meaningful value across the organization. As a trusted partner to the business, the Director will leverage deep expertise in asset management and operations, risk management, and internal controls - combined with strong business acumen and advanced problem-solving - to drive insights, enhance governance, and support enterprise-wide priorities.Accountabilities:Contribute to A&A’s annual planning activities and leading the audit and advisory engagement-level planning, scoping, objectives setting, scheduling, and development of work programs under the direction of the MD/Domain Lead and in accordance with the Audit Plan.Identify risks and controls, appropriately assessing risk and concluding on the effectiveness of controls to determine the impact on achievement of CPPIB’s objectives and compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and external regulation.Exercise independent judgement and assess key and emerging risks, identifying control weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in the operating environment and developing practical recommendations for corrective action.Ensure audit and advisory engagements are completed objectively, professionally, within budgeted costs and timeframes and in accordance with corporate and industry audit standards.Develop and maintain effective working relationships and open lines of communication with key internal & external stakeholders; by working collaboratively and constructively to ensure a strong understanding of the business is developed and that management receives optimal value from work delivered.Provide coaching and guidance to junior auditors ensuring timeliness and quality of engagement deliverables.Oversee team members to plan and execute assurance and advisory activities and optimizing resource staffing to deliver our work in the most effective and efficient manner possible, while maintaining appropriate quality of work.Operate through a continuous improvement mindset – identifying opportunities to leverage automation, technology, and data analytics to generate insights and drive efficiencies in audit processes.Identify and implement ways to streamline audit processes to support shorter, more targeted audits.Demonstrate agility to anticipate, adapt and pilot approaches that create value.Foster an inclusive team environment based on trust, with a safe to speak up culture.Demonstrate the highest ethical standards.Role-model our “no surprises” approach and transparency with management.Embed enterprise-wide priorities into A&A and play a connector role across the organization based on your exposure to different areas.QualificationsUniversity degree, preferably in an accounting / business / finance or related discipline; post graduate degree is a plusAt least one of the following professional designations is required (CPA and/or CFA); other relevant professional designations are a plus (CIA, CFA, CBV, PMP, CISA etc.)10+ years of progressive experience in Consulting, Internal/External audit, and/or Risk Management at large and complex financial institutions, public company, and/or investment companyBroad and deep knowledge and experience in asset management, asset management operations and strong understanding of their risk implicationsKnowledge of audit methodologies, risk management and compliance practices preferably in the investment management or related financial services areasExperience leading and managing audit/ consulting engagements or large-scale projects.Understanding of data analytics and/or technology concepts is an assetSuperior communication skills (written and oral) with the ability to take concepts or events and present them simply, concisely and effectively.Strong judgment and creativity; strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to effectively process a large volume of information and draw meaningful/persuasive conclusions.Additional InformationVisit our LinkedIn Career Page or Follow us on LinkedIn. #LI-JB1 #LI-OnsiteAt CPP Investments, we are committed to diversity and equitable access to employment opportunities based on ability.We thank all applicants for their interest but will only contact candidates selected to advance in the hiring process.
