Are you an experienced and highly skilled Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) looking for a challenging and rewarding role? Aakom-Kiyii Health Services’ (AKHS) sub-department Akoka’tssini Mental Wellness (AMW) is seeking a dedicated ACP to support the AMW Manager with Medical Detox Program development. The ACP Program Leader will provide direct supervision over the detox staff. The ACP will also deliver critical pre-hospital and inter-facility care to the Piikani Nation. Working within an expanded scope of practice, you will provide basic life support, execute critical interventions, and offer clinical oversight during emergency responses. This role requires exceptional clinical decision-making, a commitment to patient-centered care, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team. You will be instrumental in complex clinical scenarios, focusing on stabilization, treatment planning, and seamless health system navigation.

Akoka’tssini Mental Wellness (AMW) is a sub-department under the Aakom-Kiyii Health Services umbrella. AMW supports the Piikani community with services and programming directly related to Mental Health and Addictions. AMW’s mission is to encourage Niitsitapi in their healing by providing continued services with integrity and kimmapiipitsin while reclaiming Piikanissini.
Role and Responsibilities Duties
As an Advanced Care Paramedic with AKHS, your daily work will involve:
Supervise a team of approximately 10 staff members.
Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls, delivering basic life support interventions.
Performing complex patient assessments and administering advanced airway management, IV therapy, cardiac monitoring, and pharmacological treatments.
Leading on-scene clinical decision-making to support the stabilization and transport of critically ill or injured patients.
Collaborating closely with Primary Care Paramedics, offering mentorship, clinical guidance, and hands-on support during multi-provider responses.
Liaising effectively with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated patient care.
Maintaining accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation and incident reports.
Participating in the orientation and training of new EMS staff, contributing to skill development and quality assurance.
Ensuring vehicles, equipment, and medications are consistently checked, stocked, and functioning according to safety and infection control standards.
Supporting public health initiatives by participating in clinics, education sessions, and wellness events within the community.
Adhering strictly to confidentiality, privacy legislation, and AKHS policies in all interactions.
Actively participating in ongoing training, certification maintenance, and continuous skill development activities.
General office administration.
Coordinate staff schedule.
Strong budgeting and reporting skills.
On-Call rotation – two-week rotation as scheduled.
Work in collaboration with other AKHS Program Leaders.
Capacity to build genuine rapport with patients.
Requirements
Qualifications
Completion of an accredited Advanced Care Paramedic program.
Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics as an Advanced Care Paramedic.
Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license with an abstract indicating no serious traffic safety violations.
Comprehensive understanding of advanced pre-hospital care, including airway management, pharmacology, ECG interpretation, and trauma care.
Familiarity with Alberta EMS protocols, ACP scope of practice, and relevant healthcare regulations.
Strong knowledge of documentation standards, clinical decision-making frameworks, and quality improvement processes.
Knowledge of medical equipment use, infection control, and pre-hospital risk mitigation practices.
Familiarity with Piikani Nation governance, culture, and language is a significant asset.
Experience & Technical Skills
Proven ability to respond effectively to medical emergencies and high-pressure situations.
Skilled in performing patient assessments, vital sign monitoring, wound care, CPR, defibrillation, and advanced airway management.
Experience completing electronic and paper-based patient care reports in compliance with documentation standards.
Familiarity with medical transport procedures and protocols.
Comfortable using EMS-specific communication systems, GPS, and radio dispatch.
Ability to safely operate ambulances and maintain the readiness of medical transport equipment.
