In this rapidly evolving landscape, where news and information serve as a cornerstone for a public broadcaster like CBC/Radio-Canada, the emergence and accelerated adoption of new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), present both distinct challenges and exciting opportunities. Recognizing the need for a concerted approach, we created this position to foster close collaboration and synergy between our English and French Services, as well as with the Technology & Infrastructure division, enabling us to collectively address these challenges and fully capitalize on innovation opportunities. Mission Reporting to the Senior Director, News Production, the Director of Technological Innovation, News Division, plays a pivotal role in driving innovation within Radio-Canada News & Current Affairs. As a visionary leader and strategic collaborator, you possess a deep understanding of the realities and needs of our news teams, representing their interests in interactions and collaborations with both English Services and the Technology & Infrastructure group. Your strategic mandate is to accelerate change, catalyze the adoption of new approaches and technologies, and cultivate a culture of continuous innovation within the News division. This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines. Key responsibilities: Developing and Implementing the Innovation Strategy: Identify and prioritize high-impact innovation projects in conjunction with news leadership. Develop comprehensive road maps and action plans, considering available resources and any constraints. Communication, Collaboration and Change Management: Collaborate closely with all departments to ensure synergy and a unified approach to innovation. Clearly communicate the objectives, progress and impacts of innovation projects. Implement effective change management strategies to facilitate the successful adoption of new initiatives. Strategic Leadership: Represent News & Current Affairs (French Services) to English Services and Technology & Infrastructure, influencing corporate technological choices to align with our needs. Champion a culture of innovation and promote the widespread adoption of new technologies within the News division. What you bring: Qualifications: College diploma in media technology or equivalent experience Ten (10) or more years’ experience in news and editorial production Seven (7) or more years’ experience managing complex technology implementation projects in large organizations Skills: Ability to simplify complex technological concepts for non-technical audiences Excellent political acumen, with a natural aptitude for navigating and supporting change, fostering buy-in and minimizing pushback Exceptional analytical skills to thoroughly examine operational processes and identify opportunities for technological improvement Strong influential leadership skills and ability to gain strong buy-in from all stakeholders Outstanding team management skills, including coaching and developing talent Proficiency in project management and organizational development principles and tools Solid command of spoken and written English and French Personal Attributes: Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills Strong results orientation Strong credibility and a proven ability to build trust with colleagues and partners Open mind and comfort taking calculated risks to drive innovation Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
