We are hiring a Full-Time Permanent Engineer in In Training position working out of Edmonton, AB.
The Engineer in Training, Customer Engineering is responsible for completing overhead and underground electric distribution design. This includes reviewing customer plans for service & Microgeneration, completing distribution designs, utilizing distribution standards/specifications and identifying improvement and efficiencies in processes. The Engineer in Training is responsible to maintain successful internal and external stakeholder relationships to ensure the success of their assigned projects.
The Engineer in Training, Customer Engineering is accountable to the Manager, Customer Engineering Services and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by the Manager, Customer Engineering Services

What you’d be responsible for
Complete distribution designs using standards and specifications under the direct supervision of an Engineer
Complete ordering materials, work order issuance and approval, as well as field inspection during construction and maintenance activities
Liaise with EDTI’s Meter Data Billing, AMI, Franchise Engineering, Asset Management, Capital Engineering, Downtown Engineering, System Planning, Project Management, Operations, City of Edmonton, Telus and other associated external stakeholders in the timely execution of projects
Identify and recommend improvement and efficiency in processes
Review engineering processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensuring mitigation of risks
Provide engineering & customer experience insights to internal stakeholders
Develop and maintain good working relationships with external stakeholders including the City of Edmonton, Communication companies, Developers, Contractors, Consultants and Builders
Recommend new approaches to designs, recognizing and encouraging continuous improvement throughout the design team
Perform and review of electrical and civil calculations including pulling calculations, clearances due to sag and tension of aerial wires, pole strength calculations, voltage drop calculations and transformer sizing etc.
Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Analyze and identifying issues impacting optimal performance and establishing initiatives for continuous improvement around design, quality and efficiency
Technical Review of Microgeneration applications and provide technical guidance under the direct supervision of an Engineer
Provide mentorship to EPCOR’s Engineering Coop Student under the guidance of an Engineer
Demonstrate high performance, high discipline, safe work practice, ownership and accountability
Communicate courteously and effectively with customers or consultants by telephone, email, letter and in person
What’s required to be successful
Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Civil preferable) from a recognized post-secondary institute
Registered Engineer in Training with APEGA
1-3 years of experience working in the engineering field. Experience in a utility environment would be considered an asset.
Basic knowledge and understanding of electric power systems.
Knowledge of:
Aerial and Underground Distribution system design and construction methods, procedures, work practices and techniques.
Canadian Electrical Code Part I, Alberta Electric Utility Code and CSA Standard requirements.
EPCOR’s Customer Connection Guide and City of Edmonton’s Volume 7
Aerial and Underground Distribution system engineering standards, material specifications and engineered guidelines
Knowledge of design software such as SPIDA Calc, SAG 10, PLSCAD, PullPlanner
Demonstrated ability to:
Work effectively as part of a larger team within a dynamic environment.
Develop, nurture and manage external and internal relationships.
Understand and manage complex budgets relative to this area of responsibility.
Execute the annual capital plan for Distribution.
High level of competency with computer software. In particular: Microsoft office.
Knowledge in Electric Office or other GIS systems, IVARA will be considered an asset
