The Account Manager is responsible for promoting, selling, and retaining GFL Environmental, Inc. solid waste services to commercial and industrial clients within an assigned territory. This role focuses on identifying new market opportunities, expanding the customer base, and maintaining strong relationships with existing accounts. The Account Manager will develop competitive strategies to outperform market rivals and contribute to overall business growth. Responsibilities include preparing accurate sales contracts, leveraging knowledge of pricing structures, operational costs, and equipment options in collaboration with the Facility or General Manager. Key Responsibilities: Proactively solicit new business and expand current customer base through outbound prospecting and relationship building. Travel throughout assigned territory to meet with clients and understand customer needs. Maintain prospect and customer data using ACT database and other CRM tools. Penetrate new markets and grow market share through strategic sales tactics. Develop a strong understanding of pricing, margin calculations, and cost structures. Gain working knowledge of solid waste equipment and services including roll-offs, front-end loaders, compactors, and recycling solutions. Prepare and deliver professional sales presentations, proposals, and service agreements. Provide accurate pricing and credit terms within established guidelines. Stay informed on competitive landscape and industry trends. Identify and assist in implementing price increases for underperforming accounts. Conduct waste stream assessments to estimate volume and identify special handling or recycling needs. Represent the company at business events, trade shows, and civic functions to promote services. Engage in large account management including municipal and government contracts, bids, and proposals. Support acquisition efforts and assist in the integration of new businesses. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (required); relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education. 2–3 years of successful sales experience, preferably in the solid waste or environmental services industry. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively within assigned territory. Proficient in sales techniques including cold-calling, prospecting, and customer retention. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interpret business data, prepare reports, and deliver presentations. Basic mathematical proficiency including geometry and algebra for pricing and volume estimates. High level of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Physical & Mental Requirements: Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, and lift/move up to 25 lbs. Visual acuity to perform close work and adjust focus in various lighting conditions. Requires extended periods of driving and travel, occasionally exposed to outdoor weather and loud environments. Working Conditions: Frequent driving and field visits to client sites and prospective accounts. Variable working conditions including heat, cold, and humidity. Moderate to loud noise levels in certain operational environments.
