Overview of the Role Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for leading our Production team to always strive to achieve excellence in the areas of Employee Health and Safety, Product Quality and Food Safety. The Production Manager is responsible for managing all departments (Cheesemaking, Packaging and Shipping and Receiving) and promoting positive employee relationships and foster an environment where we can all make contributions that matter. Schedule: Monday - Friday Day Shift. Available to support after hours as needed Salary: $104,465 - 130,330NOTE: Salary offers will vary commensurate with experience, education, skills, and training. We support and take care of our employees and their families by offering : Vacation upon hire Generous and complete benefit coverage with group insurance Group retirement plan with employer contribution Telemedicine and assistance program for employees and their families Employee Share Ownership Plan with an employer match Paid Parental Leave program Paid time off: Sick days, floater days and volunteer day off Opportunity to contribute to a collective RRSP & TFSA Training and development programs Saputo Flex Program, flexible work environment (schedule/location/time off) according to department needs Organized activities for employees and their families Advantageous discounts on Saputo products How you will make contributions that matter: In every aspect of the Production Manager’s responsibilities the following Operational Objectives are paramount: Employee Health and Safety Product Quality and Food Safety Productivity Communicate and lead meetings required to achieve Operational Objectives Focus on customer satisfaction Abide by Confidentiality Agreement / Policies Ensure compliance with and communication of any Saputo Orangeville and/or Regulatory policies and procedures related to Health & Safety or Product Quality & Food Safety Complete and document physical and records verifications as outlined in the SQF Program Procedures Lead by example in all areas of the operation Ensure the appropriate resources are available to complete the Operational Objectives Health and Safety: Ensure Joint Health & Safety Committee concerns are adequately addressed Ensure all Health & Safety incidents are properly investigated, and corrective actions are completed Have available the appropriate type and level of PPE and other Safety related equipment / training for all personnel, programs i.e. Lock Out – Tag Out Ensure the effective re-integration of any employees returning to work after short or long term leaves whether covered under WSIB or other employment-related legislation Continuously reinforce the importance of safety through effective communication Product Quality and Food Safety: Maintain all food safety fundamentals and functions to meet or exceed standards Communicate with Supervisors regarding updates, etc. to the SQF System Follow-up on all Deviations and Corrective Action Reports identified through Internal and External Programs Ensure equipment is always properly maintained and repaired to meet all production needs including an effective Preventative Maintenance Program Oversee plant security and the maintenance of the building’s integrity Continuously assess opportunity to improve Product Quality and Food Safety In the event of absence of the Saputo Orangeville Personnel, refer to the Emergency Contact List (SQF Team) to identify the designated back-up personnel Plant Operations / Management: Perform the role of Senior Management for the Saputo Orangeville location Work with Senior Management to plan annual budget requirements and strategize future needs Manage operations within established budgets; seeking approval for variances with appropriate cost justifications Receive feedback from Supervisor and have open discussions Develop areas of Continuous Improvement and spear head the Continuous improvement initiatives Strive to achieve production and cost targets – communicate as necessary Review and maintain inventory levels and production yields to meet production standards related to volume, cost, and product quality (in terms of industry, company and regulatory standards) Maintain staffing and identify required resources to meet varying production demands Authorize staffing for all departments within the pre-approved budget guidelines and recommend staffing requirements not pre-authorized through the budgeting process Approve all transfers and promotions within the Plant operations Interview, hire, orientate, and provide ongoing training, management and development of all direct reports Work with Senior Management to develop and communicate Employee Performance criteria Ensure criteria is established and documented at the beginning of the annual review period, reviewed throughout the year, and formally evaluated/assessed in documented form at least once a year Ensure staff performance levels are at or above Level 3 or a corrective action plan is implemented Approve all potential situations of employment termination, per company policies and practices Challenge the supervisory team to optimize resource utilization i.e. labour, equipment Ensure plant resources are being effectively used by the management team to improve plant performance Projects and other Responsibilities: Assist in the research of new equipment in cooperation with Maintenance Supervisor. Assist and coordinate all Production related construction initiatives Assist and take on other responsibilities and projects as assigned. You are best suited for the role if you have the following qualifications: Post-secondary education in a related field, with 7-10 years relevant production operations, dairy experience preferred 5 to 6 years of Supervisory/Management experience Specific courses/accreditation in and experience with Ontario employment regulations Excellent product knowledge Strong written and oral communication skills Strong Computer Skills (Spreadsheet) Attention to detail Multi-tasking, organizational skills Time management skills Promotes and works well in a team environment Adaptable to change Motivated individual who always thinks in a positive proactive manner Acceptable criminal reference check is required Continuous improvement knowledge is an asset Please Note: The duties, skills, and requirements contained in the posting are common to the role and do not represent an exhaustive list of tasks and duties.
