This balance ensures that we foster collaboration, maintain our vibrant culture, and encourage in-person interaction and teamwork.Job DescriptionThe 2D TD – IO & Editorial plays a central role in building and maintaining tools that support ingest, conform, delivery, and editorial workflows across the studio. Working at the intersection of media management and editorial operations, this role ensures media flows accurately and efficiently between teams.Collaborating with Editorial, IO, Imaging, and Production, the TD designs tools that are intuitive, fast, and reliable for daily use under tight deadlines. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented developer with hands-on experience in a VFX studio, especially within or around editorial and IO environments.Key Accountabilities:Tool Development and MaintenanceBuild and maintain robust tools for plate ingest, cut conform, shot tracking, and delivery packaging.Develop automated workflows for QC, file validation, and slate generation in collaboration with Imaging.Improve support for editorial formats and build reliable interfaces with NLE platforms.Editorial & Media Pipeline SupportEnsure accurate and up-to-date editorial cut metadata across the pipeline.Collaborate with Editorial to enhance cut visibility and communication across departments.Maintain tools that bridge editorial timelines and shot production workflows.User Experience & Interface DesignDesign intuitive UI components and command-line tools with strong user ergonomics (Qt/PySide2).Create reliable and user-friendly tools that reduce manual overhead and speed up daily editorial processes.Document tools and provide technical support to users across IO, Editorial, and Production.
Collaboration & Data IntegrityWork closely with Production and IO teams to ensure toolsets support media accuracy and pipeline consistency.Contribute to the design of reliable, maintainable systems that support high-volume production environments.Participate in internal code reviews and collaborative development with Git (branching, PRs, code standards).QualificationsMinimum 5 years of experience in a VFX studio, with a focus on editorial and IO workflows.Strong development skills in Python.Proven experience designing user-friendly tools using Qt (PySide2/PyQt).Proficiency with editorial platforms: Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve.Knowledge of editorial formats (AAF, EDL, XML, OTIO) and delivery specs.Understanding of test-driven development (TDD), CI/CD, and Git-based workflows.Comfortable working in Linux environments and scripting for file automation.Ability to translate complex user needs into intuitive technical solutions.Nice to have: Experience with full-stack development: Flask, FastAPI, React.Familiarity with VFX color workflows: ACES, OCIO, LUTs.Experience with Rez for environment and package management.Additional InformationFull-time, Permanent Contract;Flexible and hybrid work structure in all our locations;5 paid sick/personal days;Group Insurance, access to Dialogue online support and to an Employee Assistance Program (EAP);RRSP with employer contribution.#LI-Hybrid Diversity is a core value at Rodeo FX.
