The Opportunity The Manager of Disaster Recovery is a pivotal role responsible for leading and shaping an effective Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) program, ensuring the resilience and availability of critical applications, systems, networks, and information assets. Coordinate programs for Global Standards compliance, integrate disaster recovery needs with IT teams, and lead all aspects of recovery documentation. The manager is tasked with working alongside business units to document recovery strategies and coordinate alternate work areas, ensuring minimal disruption during business interruptions. Additionally, the role requires developing and conducting BC/DR exercises aligned with global standards, offering oversight for exercises conducted by IT teams. Superb communication skills are critical for delivering a comprehensive DR/BC resilience plan. Responsibilities: Run the BCM Program Lead, shape, deliver and maintain a practical and effective Disaster Recovery program that ensures our critical services, systems, networks and information assets are available whenever our business clients need them. Work with IT and Project Management colleagues and vendors to ensure required technical assets are resilient and systems are built with DR requirements embedded. You’ll be a DR Subject Matter Expert on projects that use various project management methodologies and current technologies. Work with incident management and other BC/DR professionals across the company in delivering and gathering timely information and providing guidance while handling the response to planned or unplanned events. Develop, schedule and conduct DR exercises in accordance with segment goals and Global standards. Leverage Manulife’s global scale and work with IT partners worldwide to constantly improve the exercise process and recoverability of systems. Help engage business users to participate in exercises. Develop and maintain recovery plans in an enterprise BCM planning system. Adhere to global standards and collaborate with colleagues within the organization. Work with other IRM teams to identify areas of program improvement and drive execution through special projects and general working sessions, including but not limited to gap analyses and mitigation, improvement of tools and processes, etc. Provide reporting metrics/analytics including Key Risk Indicators, compliance reporting and dashboards. What we are looking for 8-10 years’ Disaster Recovery experience encompassing all aspects of data centre infrastructure including core infrastructure, network, storage, etc. University Degree preferred. Understanding of Cloud technologies and recovery alternatives. Experience using Fusion Risk Management tool an asset. Financial Services industry experience preferred. Professional certification in BCM – ABCP, CBCP, MBCI or MBCP a plus, but not a requirement. Strong communication skills (oral and written). Proven track record to establish relationships, engage and influence others. Achievement oriented with confirmed project management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team, leading multiple priorities within tight deadlines while maintaining a professional and friendly attitude. Ability to work off-hours to help handle incidents or connect with colleagues in different time zones. Strong communication skills, including proven ability to be sensitive and professional when communicating across geographical and cultural boundaries.
