About the Role
The Associate Quality Engineering will ensure compliance with operational processes and set quality objectives for own job area. The successful candidate will interact with contacts inside and outside own team to explain and interpret manufacturing processes, practices and procedures.
The Associate Quality Engineering will also be responsible for analyzing business processes that impact operations and develop recommendations for improvement. May partner with leaders to assess needs and define requirements.
This position requires a strong team player with experience in facilitating problem solving with cross-functional teams and a desire to maintain high quality processes and products.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist Quality Manager as tasked to address quality issues. Understand why items escaped and put action plans in place to eliminate reocurrence
Analyze business processes that impact operations to identify inefficiencies, quality risks, and improvement opportunities
Create data collection plans. Compile and analyze quality performance data, develop graphs, charts and quality reports
Participate, audit, and drive Quality metrics
Support PFMEAs (Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and CARs (Corrective Action Request) to prevent or eliminate defects in manufacturing and assembly processes
Follow a structured problem solving approach using 8D, DMAIC, or other Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques
Participate in projects with cross functional teams to address quality issues
Have a comprehensive understanding of the quality of Quality data
Attend Material Review Board as required to support the disposition of defects and provide status on action items
Lead ZDP (Zero Defect Plan) process for respective area and/or key metric
Must be able to communicate data in daily/weekly/monthly meetings
Provide regular progress status reports to management
Support the Containment process
Required Capabilities
Ability to facilitate meetings, Kaizen events, and reviews
Proficiency in process mapping (e.g., Swimlane, flowcharts, and SIPOC diagrams)
Ability to read & write technical reports and understand complex technical requirements
Ability to research, investigate and interview
Good organization skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced product-manufacturing environment
Strong communication skills (oral, writing and active listening)
Desired Education and Experiences
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (mechanical, materials, engineering science) with 0 to 2 years of experience in manufacturing quality control or business process improvement. Post-Secondary/ Associate’s Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
Ability to root cause quality issues that surface in a product or business process performing 8Ds, Fishbone Diagrams, 5 Whys, GAP analysis, and Process Mapping.
Six Sigma Green belt is an asset
Quality Engineering certification is an asset
Quality Assurance/Auditing/Investigation experience is an asset
Knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100 processes
Business analysis experience is an asset
Prior experience working with military/defense programs is highly desired
