The Senior Construction Manager oversees large-scale institutional and educational decarbonization projects, managing all on-site operations, subcontractors, and stakeholder relationships. This GTA based role focuses on delivering multi-million-dollar design-build projects — primarily in HVAC and energy-efficient retrofits — on time, within scope, and on budget while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
Key responsibilities include ensuring best practices, proper documentation, and adherence to departmental processes. The role requires collaboration with the Project Management Team and Project Engineers to meet project deliverables while driving customer satisfaction, profitability, and continuous process improvements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Lead construction management for major industrial, healthcare and higher education projects.
· Oversee and manage on-site operations, including subcontractors, clients, and stakeholders.
· Oversee a team of Project Site Coordinators who will each be stationed on-site at each project.
· Support the procurement process, including tendering, negotiation, and contract management.
Support pre-construction activities such as:
· leading the estimating process for all sub trades,
· drawing reviews for constructability,
· permit reviews,
· construction schedule development and review
· procurement and negotiation with sub trades to support PM
· develop QA/QC plan
· develop safety plan
Project Implementation responsibilities:
· Oversee, manage, mentor project site coordinators
· Review and approve safety training certification for all subs and coordinate all additional certification
requirements
· Manage/review progress reporting for each site in region on a weekly/monthly basis to the PMO / VP CIS
· Conduct ongoing quality inspections
· Support Site Project Coordinators with planning and delivery of higher risk activities such as but not
limited to;
· crane lifts,
· shutdowns,
· hot work,
· major demolition,
· On-boarding of new trades and orientation
· Substantial completion review and off-boarding of sub trades / acceptance of completion and associated
documentation
· Support and oversee daily/weekly/ monthly site safety compliance and reporting for each project
· Lead construction related troubleshooting to make recommendations to the PM to ensure
· Oversee development of contracts with all subs for recommendation and execution by the PM/ VP CIS
· Review all proposed changes and provide recommendations to PM
· Review and approve progress billing for all trades
· Oversee and approve development of project re-estimates for sub trades
Additional Requirements
· Provide on-site supervision of Project Site Coordinators (PSCs) as required (minimum weekly)
· Provide professional development plans for all PSCs
· Manage and approve time sheets for the PSCs
· Provide guidance and mentorship for PSC team
SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
· 10–15 years of on-site construction project management experience.
· Proficiency in managing large-scale, multi-million-dollar projects.
· Experience in the ICI sector (hospital and institutional experience preferred)
· Post-secondary education in construction management or equivalent.
· Expertise in navigating Ontario regulations and working with local authorities.
· Strong verbal and written communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
· Proven problem-solving abilities, especially in on-site technical challenges.
· Ability to effectively manage project scope, costs, and schedules.
· Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills under pressure.
· Thorough understanding of the Ontario Construction Act and CCDC project documentation.
· Current PMI certifications or enrollment in a PMI program is an asset.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.
· Experience with construction management software (we use Procore), including billing and scheduling.
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
· Proven customer service and client relations skills.
· Excellent time management, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively in a matrixed team environment.
· Ability to be in office roughly 2 days per week and on-site 2-3 days per week as required by project/investment grade
study needs
· Valid Driver’s license and access to a car for weekly site visits
The Company reimburses mileage and approved business expenses, subject to our internal expense policy and limits.
