THE OPPORTUNITY
In this position, you’ll join a highly experienced team of professionals who have been in the tree care industry for more than 44 years, Professional Tree Care Co. (see professional tree care dot com and green waste recycle yard dot com).
As our First Ever Auto Service Tech & Driver, you’ll be the primary person to drive the greater Bay Area to pick-up and drop off parts for a huge fleet of vehicles; the same trucks, cranes, and heavy equipment used to trim and safely take down enormous trees from Mendocino to Monterey and Sacramento to San Francisco.
Reporting directly to our Fleet Manager and working alongside highly experienced mechanics on our Fleet team, you’ll learn how to maintain and make basic repairs to a wide variety vehicles and machines while learning on the job.
The person who fills this role will be an extremely safe driver who is seeking a long-term career as a mechanic. He/She/They must be comfortable working in several different locations and with a wide variety of people since we have two yards in Richmond and one in Berkeley.

WHY YOU’RE SUCH A GREAT FIT FOR THIS ROLE
You’re a gearhead! You’re naturally mechanically inclined, love all things related to cars, trucks, and heavy equipment, AND you want to earn while you learn
You have one or more years of hands-on experience, or a combination of trade school and hands-on experience
You like to drive. You’re a safe driver with a clean driving record; clean CA Class C Driver’s license
You live within a brief commute distance to our yard in Richmond, CA.
You’re authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, of course.
You have at least a high school diploma or G.E.D. Please list all coursework and completion dates on your resume
You’re physically able to lift at least 30 pounds regularly to load and deliver car parts
Bonus points for:
Being bilingual English/Spanish. This is not required but a huge plus
Having several years’ experience working as a lube technician, junior mechanic, driver, or anything related to the responsibilities of this position
Being computer savvy since you’ll enter part numbers and inventory info. into a database
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform preventative service maintenance, diagnoses and repairs on autos, light trucks, large trucks, and a variety of equipment related to the tree care industry
Check and change car fluids, filters, windshield wipers, and parts as needed. Check tire pressure, change brake pads, rotors, sensor, etc.
Perform standard inspections and tests
Update our Tatem’s database online to meet compliance and regulations standards
Serve as our primary parts driver. Drive a company vehicle throughout the greater Bay Area to pick up/deliver parts, special orders, and whatever is needed by the Fleet team
Deliver and pick up vehicles needing service
Maintain a clean and organized work area when not driving or working on a mechanical project
Once trained, utilize hand tools and diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot mechanical issues
Entering inventory into the Tatem’s database
Making suggestions that will increase the team’s efficiency and/or save money
Other projects as time allows
COMPENSATION AND FURTHER DETAILS
This is a full-time/permanent position that comes with medical, dental, and optical insurance paid at fifty percent (50%) after 90 days of employment.
The person who is accepts this role must be thoroughly satisfied with an hourly rate of $20.00 per hour. Especially, since this is a learning opportunity for anyone who plans to become a mechanic.
