Our Environmental Programs & Assessments team is looking for a Director, Restoration Planning to join the team! You will provide senior leadership oversight, expertise, and direction to ensure the organization’s ongoing compliance with environmental legislation, and the division’s commitment to project stakeholders and corporate strategy, through assessments, mitigation, and liaison with partners and Indigenous communities and Nations, throughout the CPG.
What will I be doing?
Review environmental due diligence work to ensure appropriate and consistent corporate-wide approach in relation to natural heritage impacts and restoration planning in support of environmental assessments, the Transit Project Assessment Process, project design, construction and monitoring.
Lead the tracking of CPG wide vegetation impact assessments and restoration plan initiatives to understand and coordinate overall design and construction work.
Provide technical expertise in the preparation and execution of restoration plans.
Create policies and environmental best management practices (e.g. environmental assessment, species at risk, ecological restoration) in relation to vegetation and other natural heritage impacts and restoration plans.
Represent Metrolinx at meetings on sensitive vegetation impacts and restoration plans with Indigenous communities and stakeholders such as municipal councillors, members of the legislature and parliament, activist groups, citizen groups, and the general public.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
Demonstrated experience providing strategic leadership and direction to meet the legal/regulatory requirements in the completion of environmental assessments.
Knowledge of Canadian/Ontario regulatory requirements including fields relating to the environmental assessment process, vegetation, ecological restoration, species at risk, natural heritage.
Strong understanding of legal and regulatory requirements relating to environmental matters including, Conservation Authorities Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Birds Convention Act and Fisheries Act.
Ability to effectively liaise with regulatory bodies at all levels of government (e.g. federal agencies, provincial ministries, conservation authorities, municipalities), other stakeholder groups, and Indigenous communities.
Excellent human relations skills: ability to work with and obtain buy-in from various stakeholder groups especially during public and stakeholder engagement during contentious capital undertakings.
Excellent analytical ability, oral/written communication skills, and negotiation skills including good working knowledge of excel and ability to work with GIS mapping and database.
Experience with vendor management to manage development and delivery of externally provided products and services and monitor contractor work assignments for adherence to timelines and the achievement of performance objectives outlined in the Agreement terms and conditions
Project management principles and practices, including budget and schedule controls, to lead and direct cross functional teams and consultants engaged in simultaneous projects (e.g. development, project progress, related staff and project resources) and monitor project activities for adherence to timelines, budgets, and project performance objectives
Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to develop strategic plans and liaise with internal and external stakeholders in the delivery of environmental assessments
A valid G driver’s licence in good standing. A Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate. The employee(s) in this role will have access to a company vehicle (Non-Revenue Fleet Vehicle).
