We are currently seeking a Journeyperson Powerline Technician (PLT) to join our growing team. Reporting to the Foreman, the PLT is responsible for constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground electrical power systems for transmission and/or distribution.
This is a hands-on leadership role where your technical ability, mentoring capacity, and commitment to safety will directly support our operations and team culture.
Responsibilities:
Erect and maintain steel, wood, or concrete poles, towers, and guy wires
Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines, insulators, conductors, transformers, switches, and associated equipment
Perform conductor stringing, sagging, clipping, and dead-ending (energized and de-energized)
Execute advanced system switching tasks, including reclosers and loop feeds
Perform UG (underground) cable testing, terminations, and equipment installation
Splice, solder, and insulate conductors for network connections
Operate aerial devices and climb structures safely and efficiently
Model safe work practices and ensure crew adherence to Valard’s HSE policies
Mentor apprentices and junior personnel in tasks, safety protocols, and equipment use
Conduct and review tailboards, FLHA, and daily safety checklists
Proficiently carries out advanced live line work procedures and teaches basic live line procedures to apprentices work aloft
Report incidents, hazards, and environmental concerns promptly
Lead or assist with job hazard assessments, fall protection plans, and critical lift plans
Maintain a clean and hazard-free worksite
Ensure proper documentation of safety forms, inspections, and procedural compliance
Uphold environmental stewardship standards in all site activities
Submit daily documentation and reports in a timely manner
Journeyperson Powerline Technician certification
6 years of experience in the utility or electrical construction sector
Valid Class 5 or 3 driver’s license; preference for Class 1 with air brake endorsement
Proven experience leading crews and training apprentices
Demonstrated experience in energized work, system switching, and UG installations
Experience supervising and mentoring apprentices
Strong understanding of construction and maintenance practices for transmission and distribution systems
Proficiency in reading construction prints and electrical schematics
