Job Summary:
Stanfield’s is an iconic Canadian lifestyle and workwear brand. Since 1856, we’ve remained committed to comfort through quality creating innovative underwear, base layers and knitwear staples. As the Lead Designer, you will support the Director of Design and Merchandising in executing all aspects of product concepts and design for domestic and import products for Stanfield’s family of brands. We are looking for a highly organized individual who is well versed in materials, construction and styling and will adeptly apply this to create functional, innovative, quality products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including technical services, QA, and import suppliers to ensure quality and design remain true to Stanfield’s legacy.

Responsibilities:
Track and manage workflow and ensure seasonal deadlines are met according to the Merchandising Calendar timelines
Responsible for creating brand-right apparel for respective brand’s vision
Work closely with Technical Design team to ensure product is designed to meet customer needs and the Company’s strategic pillars while adhering to development timelines and target margins
Approve samples at all stages of development
Collaborate directly with import and domestic co-manufacturing partners for new fabric & trim development
Participate in fittings on live models and suggest fitting corrections to ensure design intent is met
Collaborate and liaison with the QA department to ensure testing has met internal standards
Responsible for researching and identifying trends, new fabrications, graphics, printing and dyeing methods
Design/ sketch product in Illustrator
Responsible for approvals of all strike-offs, lab dips, and trims from initial design to production
Research and source various packaging mediums; develop packaging; determine required dimensions for relevant products
Follows standard operating procedures on all requests to meet or exceed quality and brand standards
Attend and participate in Line Review meetings
Global travel for research/ concept and product development; within Canada, to USA, Europe as required.
Qualifications:
5-7 years industry experience preferably within a manufacturing setting
BA Degree/Diploma in Fashion Design, Clothing and Textiles, or a related field
Skilled in all aspects of garment measuring, construction (prefer with costing and marker making experience, but not required), sewing techniques
Understands the product development lifecycle, including cross-functional team requirements
Experience in CAD sketching and design
Advanced knowledge of material use, drape and garment function
Advanced knowledge of colour, print, fabric, fit, and garment construction
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to relay clear and constructive feedback
Strong attention to detail – proven quality workmanship
Proven ability to identify issues, solve problems and work independently or with a team
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop (preferred but not mandatory)
Microsoft Office knowledge
Demonstrates organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills
Ability to work within a fast-paced environment, adhere to tight timelines with many overlapping projects and prioritize conflicting demands
