Our GFL team is expanding, and we’re looking for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist who will administer and coordinate various loss control and risk management duties primarily focused on the areas of workers compensation, controlled substance and alcohol testing. Act as liaison between outside health care resources, insurance carriers and claims management What’s in it for You: • Comprehensive Benefits Plan including prioritized orthodontics and vision care • RRSP matching and profit sharing • Employee Assistance Program, life insurance, and more! • Paid time off • Competitive wages • Growth opportunities Key Responsibilities: • Coordinate and monitors controlled substance screening process i.e., distribution, recordkeeping and coordination of results. • File and control invoices received from agencies, companies and associated claims • Coordinate Certificates of Insurance through Broker • Review accidents and workers compensation PO check requests • Request /review new hire Motor Vehicle Reports and coordinate annual company-wide review • Generate wage statements for insurance carriers. • Coordinate quarterly update of NTA roster. • Assist as needed with workers compensation audit (annually) • Communicate with employees, managers, and insurance carrier regarding WC claims • Responsible for the administration and monitoring workers compensation claims. • Maintain a working knowledge of safety theory, regulations and Company policy. • Review the record keeping process and branch compliance folders • Assist in generating monthly DOT and safety subject matter and annual themes. • Conduct random audit in each division. Transportation Issues • Conduct observations from a variety of perspectives including landfill, in cab, pre/post trip, and randomly conduct blind observations. • Develop new ways to monitor and conduct new-hire driver training. • Conform in all respects with applicable federal, state/provincial and local laws, regulations, ordinances and other orders and to all company policies, procedures and directives from supervisors. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management. copy machine, etc.). Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Four (4) year degree in safety, environmental management or technology. • 0-2 years experience in risk management or related field. • Possess valid state driver’s license. • Combination of education and/or experience. • Ability to effectively communicate with managers and employees. • Ability to write and understand reports and correspondence. • Ability to acquire and apply knowledge necessary to solve safety related problems.
