Job Summary
The Accountant, Intercompany and Tax is responsible for performing and leading several key intercompany and tax functions of the finance department, as well as supporting the broader finance team’s goals and objectives. This position reports to the Director, Accounting & Reporting.
Duties & Responsibilities
Tax
Prepare various tax filings for multiple entities (HST/QST, Carbon Tax, Excise Tax, Corporate tax, etc.)
Own the tax provision and legal entity financial statements process
Responsible for understanding tax requirements for various states, jurisdictions and ensuring we are compliant with various tax authorities
Identify and document tax processes and positions
Lead external tax audits and provide information as requested
Liaison with professional firms to stay up to date on tax developments, tax planning opportunities and tax recoveries
Administer various tax portals and communicate with tax authorities
Research tax laws and regulations as required
Ensuring compliance with all reporting regulations in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Intercompany Accounting
Solid understanding of Porter’s legal entity structure, allocation model and intercompany agreements
Review operating expenditures to ensure costs are captured in the correct legal entity.
Working collaboratively with internal finance teams, operations and commercial services to communicate legal entity observations and make recommendations as required
Maintain intercompany debt schedules and timely recording of interest expense
Perform month-end close procedures and intercompany reconciliations for various legal entities
Confirm the revenue and service agreements are complied with and work with treasury to ensure timely settlements between entities
Actively participates in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply with and promote the Company Safety Policy.

Qualifications
Bachelors or post-graduate degree in business or related studies (finance or accounting specialization)
Recognized tax or accounting qualification (2 years of tax experience minimum)
Excellent analytical skills, ability to review processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency
Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, with a high proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Strong communications skills; ability to communicate clearly and precisely in English
Detail and results oriented with strong organizational skills
Strong self-starter who seeks continuous process improvement and likes to drive change
Ability to work with strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Flexible and willing to do other tasks within the finance group, as requested and required
Experience with MS Dynamics (Great Plains) an asset
Travel / aviationindustry experience, an asset
