Job Summary: The Corporate Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting tasks, including recording accounting transactions/journal entries, reconciling accounts and, analyzing general ledger accounts. This role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with Finance policies and procedures, internal controls and integrity of the general ledger trial balance. Responsibilities: Initiating, preparing and processing journal entries for CSA. Completing key balance sheet and income statement GL account reconciliations and recording journal entries or investigate differences. Maintaining the CSA fixed asset sub-ledger. Participating in month-end close activities. Liaising directly with management and staff in the preparation of month-end reports and charts for inclusion in the monthly Financial Results issued by the corporate team, providing information, as required. Assisting in the preparation of year-end schedules and analysis for all balance sheet accounts, for inclusion in the external auditor working paper file. Works directly with external auditors and provincial tax auditors during their audits. Supporting the tax department with the preparation of month-end government forms (HST, PST, QST, etc.) for various accounts. Informing the Manager of day-to-day status of work load and recommends remedial action when necessary. Providing assistance to and supporting Corporate staff and departments with enquiries and follow up relating to costs charged to specific cost centres, which may arise following release of monthly cost centre reports. Identifies errors/inefficiencies within the IT systems and within CSA processes and proactively suggests process improvement ideas and actions to reduce manual efforts and month-end close time. Assists manager or other Finance staff, from time to time, with other ad-hoc enquiries, projects and activities on an as-needed basis. Make sure the related accounting documents are well maintained according to the company policy. Education and Experience: A 3-4-year University Degree or equivalent, with a major/concentration in Finance & Accounting. A minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting/finance role. A designation and/or enrolment in a post-graduate accounting designation is preferred. Requires working knowledge of one or more of the following computer applications: SAP (AP, GL, AR), Workday, Worth-It, BOFA, RBC, and First Data.
