Position Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure Planning, the Mechanical Engineer plays an integral role as a member and representative of the Facilities & Services (F&S) team within the Infrastructure Planning & Implementation department, to support the delivery of deferred maintenance projects within the RISE (Revitalizing Infrastructure, Strengthening Excellence) Program.
The University of Toronto, St. George Campus Rise Program consists of multiple projects within 80 campus buildings The duration of the program will start from 2025 up to the end of 2027. Project are of varying scale and cost in the range of $100,000 up to tens of millions of dollars. As part of the Infrastructure Planning and Implementation team, the Mechanical Engineer will provide enhanced hands-on service to ensure that the current and future projects are delivered in a timely manner, within budget, meeting or exceeding the university standard for quality.
The Mechanical Engineer will provide specialized mechanical engineering services for all capital projects throughout the project delivery cycle - from initial design to building hand over. In the pre-design phase of each project, the incumbent will provide feedback and guidance to external consultants with respect to the content in the technical investigations of existing buildings on campus. The Mechanical Engineer will analyze the technical investigations and ensure completeness such that, it can inform the scope and costing of related projects. The incumbent will work closely and collaboratively with the Building Area Managers and other stakeholders within the Facilities and Services department to support the delivery of technical investigations.
Qualifications Required:
Education:
- University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PEng), in good standing with a license to practice in the Province of Ontario required.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years in Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated experience working in the built environment.
- Experience with diverse large projects including academic, laboratory, and commercial clients an asset.
- Solid understanding of the project delivery lifecycle
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Bluebeam.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD with the ability to update drawings.
- Sound knowledge of REVIT and BIM.
- Thorough understanding of HVAC, heating and cooling, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Sound knowledge of the Mechanical Design Standard and Building Automation Standard.
