We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Controller to lead our accounting operations, blending strategic financial oversight with hands-on bookkeeping responsibilities. Based in Montreal, this role involves managing a distributed accounting team, including a group in the Philippines and 2-3 staff members in Montreal. The Controller will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health of our high-volume, fast-paced organization, driving efficiency and innovation in financial processes. Responsibilities
Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting for our global operations.
Manage and mentor a distributed accounting team, including a group in the Philippines and 2-3 staff members in Montreal, fostering collaboration and professional development.
Perform hands-on bookkeeping tasks, such as reconciling accounts, managing accounts payable and receivable, and ensuring accurate financial records.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with international accounting standards and company policies.
Develop and implement innovative financial processes to enhance efficiency and scalability in a high-volume business environment.
Collaborate with senior leadership to provide strategic financial insights and support decision-making for business growth and operational improvements.
Ensure compliance with tax regulations and coordinate with external auditors for seamless audits across multiple jurisdictions.
Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and optimize working capital to support our global manufacturing and distribution activities.
Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities while maintaining high standards of financial accuracy and integrity.
Leverage technology and out-of-the-box thinking to streamline accounting workflows and improve reporting accuracy.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation is not required.
Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role, preferably as an Assistant Controller or similar position.
Experience working in a high-volume business with annual revenues exceeding $100 million, ideally in manufacturing, retail, or a related industry.
Proven ability to manage and lead a distributed accounting team, with experience overseeing staff in multiple locations (e.g., Philippines and Montreal).
Strong hands-on bookkeeping skills, including proficiency with general ledger management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Exceptional problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to think creatively and implement innovative financial solutions.
Fast-paced, results-driven mindset with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP systems) and advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
Knowledge of international accounting standards and experience with multi-jurisdictional financial compliance is a plus.
Compensation
Base Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 CAD per year, commensurate with experience.
