The Soloway JCC, a leading provider of quality education as well as social, recreational, wellness and cultural programs, has formed a historic partnership with BBYO, the world’s leading pluralistic Jewish teen movement, to engage Jewish teens in the Ottawa area. As part of the collaboration, BBYO will establish new chapters at the Soloway JCC for teens in Grades 8-12.

We are looking for a passionate Engagement Associate to join our team and make a difference. As an Engagement Associate, you’ll play a pivotal role in working closely with teens in Ottawa to build and enhance their programming, engagement, and overall impact for Jewish teens. Alongside your teammates, you’ll connect in a dynamic environment and create a positive impact on teens, our community, and the world.
SHAPING THE FUTURE FOR TEENS AND YOURSELF
As an Engagement Associate, responsibilities will include:
Build and establish new BBYO chapters at the Soloway JCC
Work with teens to create impactful, fun and dynamic programs for their peers and the community, including a kick-off event, Global Shabbat, Chapter Rush, J-Serve, and more
Supervise chapter programs and meetings, ensuring all activities are high quality, safe, and inclusive
Train teens as chapter leaders to run meetings, plan the calendar, recruit new members, ensure program excellence, and create meaningful programs that attract other teens
Facilitate effective communication amongst teens and with parents and other community members
Oversee chapter engagement data, including memberships, prospects, and event attendance
Oversee all aspects of the local programs and work with the chapter boards, advisors, parents, and other community stakeholders
Liaise with the Soloway JCC regarding facility usage, publicity, and community engagement
Collaborate with regional staff to recruit, train, and supervise volunteer advisors
Develop meaningful relationships with BBYO members, chapter parents, and community partners
Attend community gatherings to promote BBYO and recruit new teens
Serve as a staff member at regional programs and conventions, help coordinate transportation for teens, and ride the bus as needed
Meet monthly with a cohort of other engagement associates
Other duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR MAKING A LASTING IMPACT
Our team has an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for innovation to drive positive change. Additionally, Engagement Associate qualifications are as follows:
Ability to work in-person in the Ottawa area
The number of hours worked per week is flexible, but at minimum 5 hours per week
Ability and willingness to work non-traditional work hours (evenings & weekends)
Availability to supervise weekly chapter programs at the Soloway JCC, 21 Nadolny Sachs Private, and attend 3-5 regional programs and conventions in Toronto each year
A creative and responsible self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration with teens
A background in BBYO or similar youth/Jewish organization is preferred but not required
Detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
