About the Position:
Main responsibilities will include:
Identifies business opportunities and follows up on all sales leads in the early stages ensuring a steady stream of work. Conducts risk assessments on opportunities and determines what projects should be pursued and why
Manages ongoing client relations and builds trust by providing them with ongoing assistance and advice on potential project designs and problems/opportunities in steel construction. Maintains confidences between competing clients/vendors and ensure proprietary information is not disclosed inappropriately.
Prepares presentations for new clients detailing the strengths of Walters. Promotes Walters Inc. capabilities at client and industry events.
Uses market intelligence to maintain an understanding of the market and of alternative suppliers (to inform benchmarking, contingency planning and competition strategies).
Gathers market intelligence and stays abreast of the competitions activities
Manages all communication, internal and with the client, schedules strategy and review meetings, and ensures the full team is following the process during the pre-bid and bid process.
Keeps clients aware of the potential risks with proposed bids from the competition (e.g. they may bid on a job, but they may not be able to do it as they’ve priced it due to their structure, or the quality of materials).
Prepares Sales Activity Reports that provide status updates on potential projects. These reports set the sales plan for the week, month, and/or years (projects can have 3-10 year lead-time).
Prepares weekly reports detailing the status of various projects and other outstanding items e.g. shifting timelines or people changes in the projects. Reviews and considers the impact on Walter’s resources so that adjustments to internal scheduling or resources assigned and alternative plans can be made.
Prepares project proposals detailing project scope, resources, schedule, technical designs/modeling and cost.
Manages bid logistics, developing the schedule for the team and setting responsibilities/expectations for development of the proposal, in consultation with the VP Sales and Markets, and Estimating Manager.
Attends client meetings to clarify bid submissions, communicates with engineers and project designers/architects and other technical people answering their questions and concerns.
Reviews drawings and project specifications submitted by the client and enlists the estimators in preparing cost estimates, responding to their questions and clarifying details to ensure appropriate estimates are prepared for the client.
Leads and facilitates bid planning, contract formation, contract administration, resolution of disputes, protests, and claims, and subsequent contract modifications and ensures contractual agreements are adhered to.
Provides expert advice and services to project managers on contract administration to help ensure Walters Inc. gets what it is paying for and maintains a non-adversarial relationship with the client(s). Assists project managers in managing and complying with client contract requirements.

Position Requirements:
Required
A university degree in engineering or business administration.
5-10 years of experience in a sales role. Structural Steel Construction is considered an asset
Desired:
Demonstrated familiarity with the Project Management Body of Knowledge.
Experience in dealing with long sales cycles and interested in working on large scale projects that could cross international borders.
Experience in Estimating small and large scale projects.
Experience in Project Management of small and large scale projects
Knowledge, Skills and Competency Requirements
Knowledge of steel fabrication concepts, practices, and procedures
Ability to read structural and architectural drawings
Organizational skills and the ability to be flexible in managing changing priorities
A team player, who can interrelate and operate effectively with peers and other associates within a collegial, yet demanding, work environment
Ability to make compelling presentations to a variety of audiences using visual aids, slide shows and other media. Is adept at getting the attention and involvement of the most difficult audiences
Ability to build strong relationships – is friendly, engaging and able build trust with clients
Ability to be flexible, multi-task and prioritize effectively in a fast paced environment
Persuasive, credible, and polished communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
Client focused; able to adopt client perspective in all interactions
Proven expertise in the following software – CRM (Various), MS Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint
