Reports To: Yagole Daycare Manager
Job Purpose:
As a cook for Yagole Daycare, the job responsibilities are to provide a healthy and nutritious food program to the daycare children daily which includes menu planning, food stocking, food preparation, cooking, cleaning and sanitation of kitchen.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide daily healthy meals by:
Complete meal and snack preparation and presentation with the knowledge of sound safe food handling, health and hygiene practices
Assist staff with supervision of children at mealtimes
Meal and Snack Preparation:
Plan biweekly menus and grocery list for daily meals and snacks
Create and implement snack and meal schedules in a timely and consistent manner
Order and shop for menu requirements according to the number of children
Conduct ordering and complete food shopping activities
Ensure availability of adequate food supplies and appropriate food preparation based on the number of children in attendance.
Awareness of children’s allergies or sensitivities whilst preparing snacks and meals
Equipment and Cleaning:
Wash dishes and maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen
Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen and meal areas daily and thorough cleaning of the kitchen on a regular schedule
Maintain kitchen and equipment – i.e. cooking tools in a clean, hygienic and orderly manner
Report to supervisor concerns that affect kitchen operation – i.e equipment operation issues, etc
Other:
Work with the staff to maintain a healthy, positive, safe atmosphere for the daycare children.
Complete and submit administrative reports, including grocery lists and costs, monthly reports, leave requests, activity logs/calendars, etc., in a timely manner
Perform all related tasks as directed by Supervisor
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Minimum of Food Safe Certification and/or other related training is an asset
Minimum of 2 years of related cooking experience – i.e. a childcare/school setting
Level 1 Early Learning Childcare Training is an asset
Valid First Aid & CPR/AED Training Certification
A Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
Work well within a team and independently
Have very good effective communication skills – oral and written
Able to work effectively with children, staff, other programs and parents/caregivers
Be adaptable and open to change that will enhance service delivery
Communicate and implement processes to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness
Knowledge of Cold Lake First Nation’s culture, government, languages, and community dynamics is considered an asset.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
Manual dexterity and strength are required
Work environment is in a kitchen in a daycare facility
Standing for extended periods of time
Lifting is required
Working with kitchen tools and hot appliances so care and attention is required
Working with noise from exhaust fans, food processing equipment and/or children
Repetitive tasks - cooking, cleaning
Hours of work are 7: 30am – 3:00pm Monday to Friday
