Title: Academic Support for Adults and Alternative Students - 20% Alt and 80% Adult (Global Sustainability Studies 12, MKS 11 or CCS 11, PAL 11 and PE 11 and 12 as required, Business Technology 11, Design 11, Oceans 11, Co-op 12)
Provide classroom instruction and supervision to students enrolled in an alternative education setting. Reinforce instruction to individual students and small groups in a variety of academic subjects and other learning activities, including implementing personal education plans and behavior plans. Teacher will utilize various behavioral strategies and alternative programs. Successful candidate will work in coordination with outside agencies and support staff, attend meetings and keep all records in PowerSchool. (Math and Science are an asset)

Description:
The Academic support for adults and alternative Students Teacher is responsible for teaching and providing support to students within the South Shore Regional Centre for Education. The Teacher will work within the Inclusive Education Policy framework by participating in individualized program planning with school staff and families to maximize learning experiences for students.
Qualifications & Experience:
Valid Nova Scotia Teacher Certification
Bachelor of Education - Secondary
University education in Science
OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% Science within the last seven (7) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references
University education in Mathematics
OR a minimum of three (3) years of experience teaching a minimum of 50% Mathematics within the last seven (7) years with positive performance appraisals and/or references

Experience teaching grades 9-12
The Alternate piece can be regular classroom teacher, familiar with high school courses and credit program, high school graduation requirements. Culturally responsive, inclusive, diverse, safe learner environment
Excellent communication (written and oral and electronic), problem solving and interpersonal skills;
Ability to collaborate with school and inter-agency teams to support early intervention strategies, coordination of services, problem solving and program planning;
Proven ability to work as a contributing member of school program planning and multidisciplinary teams;
Ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of culturally responsive pedagogy;
Current knowledge of developmental trauma, the impact on learning, communication and social engagement throughout the lifespan;
An interest and willingness to engage in continuing education and professional development;
Ability to apply training and experience to develop, implement, and monitor individualized programs and teaching strategies based on the individual needs of students;
Ability to employ non-violent crisis intervention techniques;
Ability to demonstrate teaching strategies and coach school staff as needed;
Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the norm;
Experience in planning and developing training and professional learning opportunities related to students with behaviours of concern;
Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.
Demonstrated ability to value the voice and contribution of others while remaining open to corrective criticism.
Completion of WHMIS and First Aid, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
